Curious how others have made a choice between these two schools . . . Looks like son will be making this decision later this month. We plan on visiting again but would be great to hear thoughts on attributes to compare.
My daughter is deciding same, but appears to be leaning towards Marquette. Her financial package is better at SLU, but has more stipulations with her GPA which Marquette’s does not. Will let you know what she decides… hopefully soon.
My son was admitted to both in the biomedical engineering program. Marquette’s financial package has been a bit more generous and hopefully, he will get the Jesuit half tuition scholarship too. This will increase hi FA by $6K approx. Also Marquette has been more kind and given us by far a more personalized treatment. Both gave us a 15 day extension on the May 1st deadline. Between the two we’re more inclined towards Marquette but it is all depending on the Jesuit scholarship. SLU is practically out of the picture since we have a third option which is Ohio U.
My son ended up deciding on Marquette. It wasn’t an easy decision on parent’s end, but appeared easy on his (which is what really matters). In the end, Marquette rolled out the red carpet. The chair of the department in which he anticipates majoring went out of his way to welcome him. Acceptance into the honor’s program and the associated upscale housing were also factors (not accepted to SLU’s honors which was odd). Then the Jesuit 1/2 scholarship was almost equal to the SLU merit offer. Then again, the 1/2 scholarship will increase should tuition rise; not so with the SLU offer. We also felt the Marquette experience was far more personal. It was weird that SLU did not pay more attention to him when he visited as an accepted Vice Presidential scholarship prospective student. I think he just felt more wanted at Marquette which goes a long way when you are considering “fit.”
What was her decision?
