Well, see you guys around Marshall for campus visits!!!

yep same here.

hey,
i was just admitted here... but i have some questions before ultimately deciding. i am planning on going to admit day, but what have you guys heard about marshall. are the g.e.d. requirements a pain in the butt? are people friendly? how does it compare to the other colleges? i dont know anyone who has gone here so i dont have acess to this info. any help would be appreciated.

The page finally uploaded for me and I'm in! I'm so excited!

I got in Marshall too (first choice) as Biological Science major just a few hours ago.

To answer your question Cali, I think we are all very lucky.

I was really interested in the six college system, so I did a lot of research before making my choice. Much like many of the UCSD applicants, I was almost resolved to going to either Revelle (known for being the hardest), Warren (known for being the best balance) or Muir (known for having the least GEs).

After doing some research, I found that Marshall is actually the best one (at least for me): the dorms are pretty nice (ERC has the best though), people are very friendly, medium GE requirements (Dimensions of Culture is the only GE people don't like that much), and they have a great place to eat I've heard as well (and it's open late.)

I gave a brief overview of each college in the "just for fun" thread...you might want to check that out.

But rest assured, Marshall is a great college...you'll be glad you chose it.

Thank you:) I think I've come to the decision that choosing which college to attend might be harder for me than applying.

I chose Marshall for Econ as well. But I may actually
go to UCLA Econ over this one.

Rman: since you're already at Marshall, you get to be the voice of reason...you said:

"Muir: easiest GEs. Most social dorm by far. Dorms are ok.

Marshall: (I chose this one) good balance of GEs, and they have a dimensions of culture requirement. Good dorms and good food."

How "social" is Marshall in comparison to Muir? Thanks.

From what I've heard, there is a different type of "social."

I'll give you an example.

Believe it or not, Muir is polarized into two types of people: people who want lowest GEs to get out as soon as possible and people who want to enjoy their college experience as much as possible.

One Muir guy (of the former category, he wanted to take as few courses as possible) complained about hearing students getting back from a party at SDSU at 2am and having an after-party at their dorm.

Now this is truly a rare situation, but it still should be expected to a certain extent in Muir.

Muir is social in the sense that people are more likely to party and have fun.

Marshall, I would say, is a lot more reserved. I would say that it is social in the sense that the people there tend to be very balanced and are easy to talk to.

So, if I were to differentiate, I would say that Muir has its fair share of party animals and Marshall is more focused on having people get to know each other, go to the movies etc.

In fact, the reason why I did not choose Muir as my first place is because I was afraid I would meet some very annoying people (MOST are not, but some Muir residents complain of this.)

Bottom line: Muir = parties; Marshall = movies/conversations

If you want a 1 to 10 scale (1 being prison cell, 10 being frat party 24/7), I would rate Muir a 9 and Marshall a 7.

I hope that clears up any misconceptions.

EDIT: I just read your post again, I actually AM NOT at Marshall (I don't attend UCSD), I just got into Marshall today. I got this solely from talking to UCSD students online.

Rman: "EDIT: I just read your post again, I actually AM NOT at Marshall (I don't attend UCSD), I just got into Marshall today. I got this solely from talking to UCSD students online."

Well, you sound quite educated on the issue and I trust you as a fellow Marshall student! Booyah!

SPEAK YEE NEW MARSHALL STUDENTS!!! I know there will be more than 6 freshmen at Marshall next year. Speak and be heard!

i also got into marshall as a psych major. After re-reading all the info about all of the colleges, i think it was the best choice for me. something about it just clicked with my personality more than the others.

so how good are the dorms? what r they like? big, small, bathrooms... u know... lets here some logistics if anyone knows!!!

woo... i love being into college!

Marshall for Psychology!

From what I remember, the dorms were pretty nice and roomy with a nice view. There was one bathroom for, I think, 6 people? The dorm area had an apartment/townhouse like set-up. Then again, the last time I've seen it was 4 years ago.

l0ves0ccer9, check out the virtual tour:

P.S. getting into college rocks...still!!!!

thanks for the link

and freshmen can be in any of the three types??

Hmm, I dunno. I like the Upper Appartments though.

That link rocks....thanks batman! im having so much fun touring the dorms.

lets keep this thread alive! so who here is pretty sure that they are going to ultimately go? i personally seem to be going back and forth between my top schools. right now, ucsd has a really good shot- as long as admit day and everything comes out well. is there any additional advantages/disadvantages specific to marshall that anyone can share that might help me get to know the school better (us east coast people dont know too much about the UCs)

From what I've heard, Marshall is a good blend of academics and studying with people that want to socialize as well; sounds like my favorite of the six colleges from what I know because the people want to meet each other.

Yeah, UCSD-Marhsall is in my top 4 along with UCD, UCSB, and USC in no particular order. I want to attend admit day real bad, but that's the same day as the prom, which kinda gets priority...I'll just have to visit some other time.
