Hi!!
I am currently living in Bursley and I hate it! All my friends are on central campus and I have no classes up here on north or anything. I have the opportunity to possibly move into Martha Cook and I know it has weird rules and stuff but the location!! I go out and like to party so I am not sure if this will be my crowd… but the location!! I am so conflicted please help!!!
Switch. It’ll be easier in the winter. Better location, better food…
Here’s a post from 2011, so things may changed.
Hi! I live at Martha Cook. It’s a nice dorm. So some of our events are having tea every Friday. Tea is a great way to just relax and have fun and it’s a great thing to invite your friends (or people you want to be friends with) to. There’s also International Tea, which is the dorm’s biggest event. It’s in March and offers samples of food from all over the world.
I think you can get bored living anywhere. But Martha Cook has a perfect location so that even if you do get bored there’s no shortage of other places to go. I think the girls here have plenty of fun, I mean, there’s groups of people who party and groups of people who do but not as often and groups of people who just don’t. It really depends on who you make friends with! But it’s really easy to make friends.
It probably is a little harder making guy friends here since there aren’t any living here, but you can counter that pretty easily by joining a club or being involved in a study group or anything, really, where you can meet guys.
I have to warn you, there is a pretty negative stigma among certain people about living here. Sometimes MC is called the “Virginal Vault” and stuff like that. So you’ll talk to some people who automatically will think you’re a loser for living here and then you’ll talk to some people who want to come to tea to see what it’s like, and actually visiting the building seems to make most people rethink their preconceptions.
This got kind of long. But anyway if you have more questions you can message me or something, okay?

This article from the Michigan Daily in 2018 should be of interest to you too:

You haven’t even been in school yet for whole month! Give it time and try to make it work for you.
You should move, and move now. If nothing else you’ll save 20 or 25 min on the bus every day. The food is better and you probably won’t spend much time in your room anyway.
