Martin vs. Helser

I’m currently deciding between Martin and Helser hall. Here are the benefits of each:

Martin:

Pros:

  • Honors floor (I will most likely make it into honors)
  • Suite-style (So private bathrooms – very important to me)
  • Air-conditioning (Very important to me)

Helser:

  • Aerospace Residential Learning Community (This is somewhat important to me. If I don’t live in Helser, I can still join a non-residential aerospace learning community. We take the same classes, but I am ahead with AP credit so that doesn’t apply as much. We get extra faculty help on projects, which would be a bonus. It would still be good to live near the people in the learning community, however.)
  • A little more social life (not very important to me)

Any thoughts? I’m leaning more toward Martin, but am I being realistic? I don’t know how dorm assignments work, but are the spots in Martin probably taken by know? Is it popular for honors students?

I also heard Helser is a dump. No AC, for example.

My son has lived in Martin for two years and loves it. He was on the Honors floor for the first year. He’s a materials engineering major.

He is moving off campus next year with his roommate and a suitemate from freshman year.

I’m also going to Iowa State next year! I currently have Martin as my top choice and plan on being on the honors floor. I’m also planning on majoring in engineering, although undecided on which type. You should add me on snap, nick_molstad
