Mary Donlon Double~

I've been assigned Mary Donlon double! please tell us about Mary Donlon Hall~ Thanks:)

I'm also in a donlon double, 5th floor, so I'd also appreciate some info

Donlon is a pretty sweet dorm. Its exterior is disgusting, but they recently redid the first floor, complete with air-conditioned library and study room.

The floors themselves are all identical, with the occasional difference in carpeting or wall-paint.

The rooms get interesting; some are bigger, some are smaller. The closer you get to the middle of the floor, the larger the room. If you're at the ends of a hall, you're in for a squeeze. Actually, it's more psychological, I think the difference is two feet at most, but that can seem like a lot of cubic space. Especially with a room mate.

Social stuff: You will know everyone on your floor after a few months. And chances are that you'll find your friends for the rest of college there. You are blessed in this regard. Seriously; a lot of people take time to find friends, but Donlonites don't, usually. Unless you're a sociopath.

Weather wise: The first 1.5 months will suck. You will be pretty uncomfortable. Depending on which side of the building you're on, you'll either boil as you wake (east side), or as the sun sets (north-west-ish side). If you're on the side facing the parking lot, you're pretty set, as long as you aren't too far towards the RPU-end.
However, unlike many other colleges, the last few weeks will be quite mild. You only have to worry about heat at the beginning of the year. Count yourselves lucky!

It was my pleasure to write this for you future Cornellians, as I'm leaving the school. I hope I've made some helpful contribution.

I'm still trying to figure out if my room is in the center, or at the end of a wing...it's room# 01 of the floor. Some one on here know by any chance?

im in 0527, which im guessing is room 27 on the 5th floor? Hopefully it's a nice one :)

You better like noise. And sleeping realllllllll late.

Donlon is a great dorm if you are comfortable with noise at odd hours and like extremely social people. I'll tell you this, you will probably be the envy of most of the other freshman if you live in Donlon, because it has a personality that most other dorms lack. Don't let the appearance deceive you.

Sounds awesome..I was a bit worried at first cause it wasn't too social during the summer with summer college

its very loud at night, when ilived there there's always someone talking at like 3 am. which makes me unable to sleep

I sleep with one of those nature sound making things (I use a constant sound not one of those stupid ones that sounds like frogs at night), so that I don't get waken up when people at my house get up before I do and make noise. If I end up in a single I will definitely be bringing it with me. Once you get used to it the only other way to fall asleep is to be dead tired like when watching tv or something. I don't know how loud this particular dorm is though, but if it isn't crazy loud this works great for me.

comfy earplugs?

Hey swuster, I guess we're neighbors I'm in 0526

0407 ~ ... is this a good room..?

I never understood how a particular dorm can have such an abundance of loud people considering that room selection is random. Someone care to explain?

The setup of the building makes it loud. Donlon essential has three long hallways that make it a triangle with concave sides. This means one person will be able to hear another person all the way down the floor. The when there are people kicking soccer balls on the wall, drunk people screaming at 2AM, people running down the hall to get their pizza, everything just compounds.

A lot of varsity athletes get placed in Donlon and they like to have fun when they can...

looks like i’m getting the room niceshrp had this past year

I’ve got a single on the 2nd floor, room 248. Anyone know if that’s at the end of the hall or what?

Are the rooms really as bad as they say they are? I’m not worried about noise at all though, I can sleep through almost anything.

i think they’re just smaller, not bad. i’m pretty sure the singles and quads in donlon are in the center of the building.

anyone know where 226 is, relatively?
