According to her DWTS partner, she can talk.
Actually…the article says he talked to her. For all we know, she was tapping the phone in response to yes/no questions. If she is intubated, she is not talking.
Reminder that this is the parent cafe, not the political forum. A number of posts hidden/deleted.
I thought he said (yesterday’s news) she could text (not talk).
That makes more sense for someone on a ventilator.
I think it is easy to speculate about the circumstances in someones life, especially one who arguably is quite famous. I pray she recovers and am thankful her girls shared what was going on as she had been ill for over a week before they posted anything.
IMO people wrongly assume that if you are famous life does not deal set-backs financially or physically. Given everything going on in the world compassion is desperately needed. Ok off my soap box.
This is a bit morbid. wow.
I don’t know how easy it is to text when you’re on a ventilator. My father was on one after he had heart bypass surgery, and he was in agony when he wasn’t sedated.
Well it’s easier to text than talk when you are intubated.
But back to the thread…
I hope this woman can fight off this pneumonia and get out if the hospital!
This article also appears in NYT, but I don’t have a subscription so can’t gift a link.
Not sure why some are so put out by people donating their money - you don’t like it, you don’t do it. It’s really that simple. Apparently she is well loved by many and the majority of the donations are coming from those people.
I’m not put out by people donating money; I’m put out by her family asking for money. I doubt that the majority of those donating have a higher net worth than her.
I’ll tell you why I’m put out … this reminds me of my sister who went without insurance for years. If she had gotten really sick it would’ve been a “poor me” cryfest when not going on the marketplace was a CHOICE. I am put off by this penny-wise, pound-foolish thinking. I don’t believe that Retton couldn’t afford some kind of insurance if she has a $2M home. I hope we eventually get the full story on her insurance status. I hope that I’m wrong to feel the way that I do.
I disagree. It seems many of the donations are from personal friends. Again, they’re asking for money, not stealing it. And it’s highly possible her children did this without her knowledge.
Yes, the message about Mary Lou’s condition went to her friends… the media picked it up, that is the only reason anyone knows her situation.
This happened with a relative’s go fund me recently (tragic situation I have posted about elsewhere.) It went to friends and family who then in turn shared it with friends and family, and so on and so forth. It also got picked up by the media and went viral. They finally closed it when it significantly surpassed expectations (though the ongoing need in this situation will be huge).
Some of the comments are quite judgmental of her choices, but really none of us know her particular financial situation or the circumstances in her life. It is easy to see the Wheaties Box and Gold medal and make assumptions…
But if you don’t have money, you can get insurance.
I try to remind myself we don’t always know all the circumstances in an individual’s life that may have led to why she doesn’t have health coverage. I’m sure her daughters are doing what they think is best and I hope she is able to recover.
