All 3 years i got C+ and freshman year i got a d+. i went to summer school and got an A but they still factor in the D+. just take away the D and my gpa would be better, and if u take away the C's too i think my gpa would be around a 3.6-3.7. Also i did Varsity Track and did track for all 4 years.
General Comments: I got into LAS

[] SAT: 1360 (700 M, 660 V)
[] SAT IIs: Not taken
[] GPA: 2.72 UW (by far the lowest here)
[] Rank: no rank
[] Other stats: My GPA looks low, but I had a 2.2 as a freshman, a 3.2 as a junior and a 3.1 as a senior. The upward curve definitely helped things and my SATs are pretty good for UMD.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I thought they were good
[] Teacher Recs: I had 2, I didn't read them but they were probably good
[] Counselor Rec: I get along with my guidance counselor, so it was probably good.
[] Hook (if any): none really, maybe being Hispanic (although in my essay I admitted I was half)?
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: New York
[] School Type: private
[] Ethnicity: Hispanic
[li] Gender: Male[/li][/ul]Other Factors:I had good ECs (Model UN, School Newspaper) Besides that, nothing really. General Comments: I didn't pay my application fee. I initially applied because I wanted to apply to one Northern school and Maryland was my favorite. However, I didn't pay the fee when I got the bill because I knew I wasn't going to pick UMD. I didn't think I would get in (if I paid) because of my low GPA although it is better than it looks because I took tough classes, had an upward trend, and go to a school where very few A's are given. I don't want to stay in the north so I'm turning down Maryland for the University of Arizona.

Iceman, it was a combination of things. First of all, I've lived in the Northeast my whole life and want to be in a different region of the country. I also want warm weather and U of A gives me that. Also, U of A has lower tuition and gave me a merit scholarship on top of that so I save a lot of money going there (even though it's on the other side of the country.) Oh, and I just felt more comfortable with the idea of going to U of A. I really really really liked the school when I visited. Maryland is a very good school and has a better reputation than U of A, but U of A just gave me more of what I wanted and the better pricetag was just the icing on the cake. If I had to stay up north, I would be at UMD in a second, but fortunately I don't have to be up here anymore. :)
