What does everyone think?
Partial Banneker/Key at UMD or Princeton w/ financial aid......and $$$ is somewhat of an issue...
(btw in-state for Maryland - I live about 45 minutes away, and like 25% of my high school goes there...)

My friend is in a similar dilemma - UMD on full B/K scholarship or Wharton at UPenn....hehe, I of course sympathize with her when everyone thinks she's crazy for even considering UMD over Penn.

The schools are uncomparable. I mean, if princeton costs you 30k more, then obviously you may not have a choice. But, if your parents are able to pay for princeton without making their lives anymore difficult, basically, if they can handle it, then go without any regrets.

yaa...i mean money situation sucks...im with you there...but you have to figure a few years down the road that a princeton degree will be the best thing to have.

I think these are very difficult decisions. I guess it all depends on whether you and the family can, in fact, afford Princeton. The education at UMCP in the Honors program is pretty incredible if you choose to stretch yourself and seek out opportunities. Princeton, on the other hand, is Princeton. Our S is in a very similar situation and will likely choose MD and participate in the Honors Humanities Program.

Good luck in deciding and think about the accumulated debt issue. Congratulations!

What if the choice is between the full BK scholarship and Cornell (NY resident in one of the land grant colleges)? Money is not the issue, although it is a factor. The decision involves which is the best choice in the long term - recruiting, grad school, etc.

personally, i would choose princeton over umd...b/c even if you have to pay loans to go to princeton...you will be able to pay it off b/c u will get a better job having a degree from princeton...and since princeton is a private school they should give u a good financial aid package...not to mention md isn't exactly the cheapest school...there are a lot of expenses you have to get to md...not to mention you won't have housing for junior and senior year...so that could a lot more expenses in those years
and for cornell vs. BK scholarship...i would still pick cornell...its such a great opportuniity

Princeton all the way! it's actually an ivy that lives up to its reputation...very, very hard to gain acceptance and you work extremely hard when you're in. no "old boys" passes! good luck!
