Maryland vs. Binghamton

My S got into both, and we are NY residents. He's not sure what he wants to study yet. Whats ur opinion on which he should choose?

Off the top, I see the differences that make it hard to compare...

cost (I assume Binghamton is cheaper)
size (I assume UMD is bigger---btw, for lots of kids (counting my 2), bigger is better for many personal and academic reasons)
LOCATION....obviously there are differences between NYC and DC....but if your S prefers a more urban location, you can get into DC easily with the Metro..
CRIME....most people will say Binghamton's safer, but that's a different subject here....

I assume most of the "opinions" on this board will vote for UMD...Biased crowd, hahahaha!

im in the same situation

some answers from people who have previously had to chose between the two would be great

Like I said, on this thread, I suspect all the people who would respond picked UMD over somewhere else.

D chose UMD over UNC-CH, Williams, and BU. For HER, the choice has proven to be awesome.

I'm personally trying to pick between the two right now. the campus in Maryland was def a lot more impressive than the one in Bing, which seemed somewhat outdated. Then again, I think maybe they don't have enough moeny to make too many renovations. Still, being from NY, I wonder if I would feel more at home at Bing, whereas Maryland is mostly attended by Marylanders...
I'm probably going to study pre-pharm and maryland seems better for that, although it's likely that I'll change majors in the future....

so, my concern is...how do the schools compare academically?

swtcandy there are sooo many people from NY here, be it Westchester, or LI, or somewhere else, that feeling out of place wont be an issue at all
