Maryland vs. Clemson Computer Science

Hello, so I’m deciding between University of Maryland College Park and Clemson University. Anyone with knowledge of these two computer science programs could compare the strength of the programs, specialization areas, job recruiting, etc. Also, if anyone attended these schools, could you also give me a little summary of your experience, the surrounding area, the social life, etc. Anything is greatly appreciated!

I regularly hear about Maryland CS - this is the first time I have ever heard Clemson and CS used in the same thread frankly. UMD has a great reputation, plentiful class offerings, an established programs with connections to the DC area, a specialized cybersecurity scholarship / program (ACES), and their graduate program is ranked in the Top 15 for every field but Theory by USNews.

Clemson looks to offer enough classes and cover a good deal of topics - it is ABET accredited so it will do. It actually looks pretty thorough at first glance.

Fit is important too, and I can’t speak to the social feel of either too much, but if money and fit aren’t incredibly different, I think UMD would be the smart choice.

In terms of program strength, Maryland hands down. Maryland is a well known university in both CS and overall. It has a HUGE campus, but it kind of necessary because the surroundings isn’t that great. CS at Maryland is tough though.
