I have heard a lot about the BFA program and a lot about the BA in conjunction with the musical theater minor. But could anyone tell me about the BA in Theater Performance and how the acting training is without the MT minor. Is the quality the same? Are you still training and learning a lot? I realize it is less credits than the BFA, but is the BA worth it?

Ironically, I’ve been looking heavily into this program recently. I’ll pm you if I get some info. For now, BUMP.

i’m applying to this school as well; when you audition you must either state whether you want to be considered for only BFA acting, only the BA Theatre Studies specializing in the performance track, or both. I too, would be interested in anymore information you receive about their training in the BA program, because if i were to get accepted into the BA but not BFA, would it really be worth it to go there? From what you wrote, I’m assuming that you’re at a similar place as me?

Krazi, Mikey, Emb …

My S just got an acceptance letter into Marymount Manhattan yesterday. (BTW - I trust you mean Marymount Manhattan and not Loyola Marymount in this thread). Anyway, enclosed in the acceptance package was a very nice brochure that provided some information that you were asking about. Specifically:

"The BA in Theater Arts offers the opportunity for study in six different concentrations within the major:

Design & Technical Production

Directing

Producing & Management

Theater Performance

Theater Studies

Writing for the Stage

This major requires 42 credit hours in theatre courses to complete and is flexible program that creates opportunities for choice within the Theater Arts curriculum. BA in Theater Arts students take 24 credit hours of required basic theater courses and 18 credit hours of required coursed in a concentration. Often, BA in Theater Arts students study more than one concentration and many double major in the College’s liberal arts curriculum."

Each one of these specialites has more information associated with it; too much to contain here in my response. However, in the Theater Performance section, it states: “… It is especially suited for students pursuing the Musical Theater minor…”. More information can be obtained directly from theater@mmm.edu, or calling (212) 774-0767.

Just to clarify; my S has been accepted into MMM, but has NOT yet done is auditions, which are scheduled for January 23 in NYC. As a result, he is not yet in the MMM program he is interested in pursing, which is the BFA.
