How does the MaryMount Manhattan Acting program stack up? Is it as strong as their MT program or do people feel it is more of an MT school? (My son is pursuing straight Acting, and hoping for an MT minor.)
I am wondering that myself as well! My daughter is currently an MT student at MMC but is thinking of auditioning for the BFA acting program as well- essentially doing both programs. She had seen one acting production this year and said it was excellent.
@remartin67 - did your son end up at Marymount or somewhere else? My D also looking for straight acting but with a little bit of MT.
@FourStars, remartin67’s son ended up at Roosevelt CCPA.
UNCSA’s acting program has singing and dance classes incorporated into the program. And UArts allows acting majors to take singing and dance classes as electives. So those are two options to consider if your D wants straight acting but with some MT on the side.
@FourStars - Sorry for the extremely late reply–my son is in Acting at CCPA. Freshman year the actors are doing ballet and my son opted to also take tap at Lou Conte/Hubbard Street Dance on the weekends, but it is still for credit and thru RU. I am told they will have some voice (next year?) but he also has an amazing Estill teacher on the north side of Chicago that he sees a couple times a month. That is outside school. So yes, he is doing acting but staying rounded for MT. He will also be doing 6 weeks at Neighborhood Playhouse in NYC this summer. (We also loved Marymount but just felt with the sheer numbers, he would be in more shows at CCPA. It’s a much smaller class. UArts just didn’t feel like a fit for him.)
