Masked attempt to increase one's chances

Hi guys!

Have applied to 5 schools (2 safeties). I am a very good golfer (Hc 1.9) and plan to continue playing golf while in college (possibly as a member of their school golf team). Should I contact the golf dep of the "reach" schools and tell them of my plans (and maybe they'll pass on a note to the admissions committee...), or is there a risk that that will be viewed as a masked attempt to increase one's chances to gain admission?

PS: In the common app, I only indicated that I was a very good golfer and that I thought of pursuing playing golf in college.

Thanx

definitely contact the golf dep....you might get recruited...its definitely an attempt to increase chances of admission, but its not like its inmoral.

that's cOOl

I envy you. I am a fellow golfer and play a lot (105 rounds last year,) but alas, my handicap is a 14.4 (and, unfortunately, on the rise...)

There is nothing wrong with trying to increase your chances by being a recruited athlete.

No, go for it. That's a great thing. Someone wanna be nice and tell me what a handicap is?

Handicaps are used in golf (and bowling) so that people of different skill levels can compete. They will your average score to calculate your handicap. Then the weaker player gets a bigger bonus so that they have a chance. In golf, the higher your handicap is, the more help you need. They should do this with the SAT's.

thx for all your replies guys

Hmmmm, unfortunately, my handicap IS my game.........

jdmcool, that was really funny

Unfortunately, so's my golf game....

how should I write the letter (email) then?

yo adcoms

straight up, im gonna tell u how shiits goin down... i is a tight golfa and you will be recruiting me, and u will like it

peace out,
D-master ENS

^ Haha. Maybe try a more formal approach?

Dear _______,

I play for the school golf team, and I was interested in pursuing golf in college.

(Add in any awards, recognition, etc.)

I hope you will consider me as a potential athlete for your golf team.

Sincerely,

Hm. I am on the school golf team as well. I would consider doing this if I weren't so bad at it.
