Have applied to 5 schools (2 safeties). I am a very good golfer (Hc 1.9) and plan to continue playing golf while in college (possibly as a member of their school golf team). Should I contact the golf dep of the "reach" schools and tell them of my plans (and maybe they'll pass on a note to the admissions committee...), or is there a risk that that will be viewed as a masked attempt to increase one's chances to gain admission?

PS: In the common app, I only indicated that I was a very good golfer and that I thought of pursuing playing golf in college.

definitely contact the golf dep....you might get recruited...its definitely an attempt to increase chances of admission, but its not like its inmoral.

Handicaps are used in golf (and bowling) so that people of different skill levels can compete. They will your average score to calculate your handicap. Then the weaker player gets a bigger bonus so that they have a chance. In golf, the higher your handicap is, the more help you need. They should do this with the SAT's.
