Mason Gross School of Fine Arts help

I’m still a high school student prospecting on where I should go to specialize in art while not crippling myself with student debt.

For anyone who has gone there - is Rutgers Mason Gross department of visual arts good? These past few months i’ve been trying to search for any information on them because the college website is very bleak in comparison to the Performing Arts department - which, I assume from all the threads I followed, is way more developed. I can’t seem to find any sort of indication that their art department is good, so I would really appreciate any sort of feedback from anyone who has gone there or from anyone who knows someone who has gone there and has come out relatively successful.

If Mason Gross doesn’t work out, I’m considering College of the Arts in Montclair - and would like feedback on their Fine arts and illustration/animation programs.

It depends what kind of art you are interested in studying. Mason Gross is more fine arts focused whereas Montclair has a more working artist focus. At least that’s how my D felt when she toured them.

Thank you for the information. Does a 'working artist focus" mean that the faculty prepares you more for the commercial industry or. . .? I’m interested in illustration, though I’m also debating fine art.
