Does anyone have any input on the Mason Gross school at Rutgers?

Can you be more specific?

What are you looking at in Mason Gross?

Specifics would certainly help. In addition, a guy who used to post here (and on the MT boards) regularly has a daughter at Rutgers/Mason Gross and had nothing but great things to say about it back when he wrote during her freshman year (last year.) It is highly selective and very much a conservatory.

Sorry, thanks for the replies. I'm specifically interested in
possibly illustration, graphics, theatre arts and costume design. A little undecided on a major.

Also, if anyone knows how it is living on campus and how the surrounding towns are.

Thanks again.

Look into Highland Park for off campus housing. It is just across the Route 27 bridge and some of apartments are on the Rutgers bus loop if you don't want to walk to College Ave or need to get to another campus. There is a very nice park and walking trail along the river.

thanks for the housing info. Are you attending the school or do you know anyone that has? I'm a serious art student who is searching for a great program. I don't know at this point if I want to be at just an art college or be connected to a university also.
Any suggestions would be great.

I took my daughter to visit Mason Gross as her sister has been at Rutgers and will graduate this year. The facilities were new, there was a art show hanging in which artists/students were competing for money. While the tutor guids showed us around, she didn't seem that excited or knowledgeble about the admission process. It does off the opportunity to attended an art school at university with a big name. The College of New Jersey is building an art school as I write this, the campus is beautiful, not no city life, which was a big problem for my kid. If you are into painting, drawing, or printmaking, conider PAFA in Philadelphia. The student talent is truly amazing.
Tyler is also building a new art school at Tempe. we have not visited it and are concerned with the location but I hear good things.

There is a book called "Creative Colleges" I believe that would be good for you to check out.

Thanks for your replies. My daughter is struggling a little with attending a stand alone art school or a university.

She wants to be in NYC or have easy access.

If anyone could suggest another university with a great art program, that would be great. She has explored all of the art schools but not so much the universities.

She wants some flexibility in exploring diff. art classes.
Fine art, graphic arts, illustration and possibly theatre or movie technical classes.
