Mass Mailing of Deferrals

Last night myself and at least two other classmates got deferral letters sent to us with the FAQ and a promise of a decision by mid-april.

A classmate who was deferred a couple months ago also received a Q and A he was to fill out and send back to UMICH. Did other people who got deferred also get this?

I know that UMICH got thousands more applications than normal this year (hence why a mass email was sent to tell everyone they were taking longer to make decisisons this year) and so I was thinking that maybe, they got to a point and said "We have TONS of apps to review still but we told these people we'd make a decision, let's just defer them all for a few more months"? This would explain why people deferred earlier (I think it's because his credentials and stats were somewhat low) were asked for a lot more information than the people who applied later and were just recently deferred (with no ask of more info besides 1st semester grades and who had higher stats).

I guess this post is half question and half just to inform people who wanna stay up to date on the status of admissions at UMICH. I'm new :)

DS was deferred Jan 13, he received a 2 page Q&A on yellow paper which was about the admissions process, but nothing that was required to be filled out/mailed back

I haven't heard anything from UMich at all since the email for setting up a WA account. I haven't been deferred or accepted or rejected yet, and my file was complete round Dec. 22. I'm in-state. Anyone kno if this is normal for the year?

LOL look who joined college confidential!

I'm shocked you were deferred, but as is said on here all the time, tons of deferred people still end up getting in (i think around 50%)

P.S. you know where i want you to go :-)

ewww sick...Im so suprised 2 find u guys on this forum
This is Vishal

umm Sara, U of M overadmitted last year A LOT so not only are the losing the 500 spots for the new dorms but more for the overadmittance.

ew L-town is all over this... butka's on here too, lol... okay back to topic folks

Am I the only one who received a letter requesting my semester grades, but never ever even said the word deferral in it?

CCRunner123, if you are a Michigan resident, you'll know the joke in this following anecdote. I know someone who applied to Grand Valley Sate and she had her first semester grades requested before she could be considered.

I am not a michigan resident. I scored a 2190 on my SAT's. I applied in October and received the letter in November.

There are lot of HYP (Harvard, Yale Princeton) applicants that use Univ. of Michigan as a safety. Most of them get into Michigan. The ones accepted by EA wait for financial aid packages from all HYP before making their decisions. The HYP deferred ones that later get in also free up a lot of spots in April. So if you are deferred, don't give up hope.

mwbashful18, ouch

GVSU calls me every other day with a new scholarship... I only applied because they just wanted my name and address, literally nothing else. heh

The campus is nice.. but the school just seems a bit.. weird.

That's my point, jay144, is that they only wanted the simplest of info and they accepted you and you are getting loads of scholarships. But, this girl in my class wouldn't get accepted until they saw senior year grades. That's a bit bad if you ask me. And I hate how the campus looks like a giant townhouse complex. The place looks so sterile. I'm sure the trees planted are still held up by string and such.

I was deferred from Michigan on Feb 2, and they only told me that sending my senior grades is optional. Does anyone know the acceptance rate for students who were deferred? Also, is it really true that they are deferring a lot more students this year?
