Mass Schools near Boston

I really enjoy boston and the urban environment and I'm looking for a few matches near that area. What are the academics strengths of the following schools, and what are their campuses like??

BC
BU
Tufts
Brandeis
Babson

I'm looking to major in economics or perhaps a business-related field. How are these schools in those fields? Are these schools all near boston?

Thanks, any other suggestions would be great

BC and BU are IN the city. Tufts is actually in Medford, but it's accessible via the T really easily.

I don't know a lot about the others. But the three schools I listed above are the most competitive, in my opinion.

you could add bentley college and northeastern university... NU is right in th city, bentley is in a suburb

Well, BC isn't really in the city, and its environ could hardly be described as urban. It's in Chestnut Hill, which is basically a suburb of Boston. The reason why it was called BC is because it was originally located in the city (in the South End, specifically). But BC moved to Chestnut Hill decades ago.

Yeah, getting from BC to downtown Boston can be a slight hassel (at least for impatient me). Thu subway that runs out there is the green line, whihc is very slow due to the fact that it has a LOT of stops and is above ground/ on the street and therefore has to stop at traffic lights and such like a car would.

bump

how are these schools in business/economics?

Might look at Holy Cross-Top30 LAC-1 hour from Boston.

Harvard
MIT

These are close to BU

You should also take a look at Suffolk. It is in the city. Northeastern has the advantage of the coop program. You can get experience and earn while working on your degree. If you really like the city of Boston, BU, Northeastern, and Suffolk are your best bets in larger schools. BC is the closest school outside the city limits. Tufts is actually outside Cambridge, so it's even further from Boston. Brandeis is also a bit remote.

If you want strictly urban location the best choice will be BU. Also as ajr62807 recommended look at Northeastern and Bentley.

Yes, these schools are near Boston. Brandeis (Waltham) doesn’t have a T stations nearby. BU is IN Boston, BC (Chestnut Hill) has a T station. Babson (Wellesley) and Tufts (Medford) have T stations nearby.

This map might help.

http://www.thrall.net/maps/mbta.html

In my opinion best schools for economics are:

1 BU
2 BC
3 Tufts
4 Brandeis
5 Babson

And best schools for business are:

1 Babson
2 BC
3 BU

Tufts and Brandeis don’t have business business programs.

Brandeis does have a commuter rail station right on campus, and it has shuttle buses going back and forth to Boston pretty frequently, particularly on weekends.

Bentley is strictly a business college, so you wouldn't have the full range of liberal arts.

these schools have not been listed. Not as prestigious but good schools nonetheless . My first choice is Simmons college. Its a womens college though don't know if that applies to you.

Emmanuel college, Simmons College, University of Massachusetts Boston

sry i'm a guy =)

and yes i have MIT and Harvard on my list already. I didn't want to ask about those....after all i did ask for matches

UMass Boston has no housing; it's strictly a commuter school.
