Hi guys I am an international student and I am on my junior year in my high school.
I want to get in to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (my dream school) and believe me I know pretty much everything about what scores should I have to get in. But my question is what kind of other things(activities,GPA,AP,SAT2 etc.) besides SAT reasoning scores should I have to reach my dream :)

PS: it would be a great help and inspiration for me to have an MIT student(or someone close to MIT) to join this conversation :D

Most international students at MIT have awards from the international science olympiads. You want some sort of achievement that will distinguish yourself as one of the best students in your country and competitive in the international arena.

It goes without saying that you should have a GPA at the top of your class and near-perfect SAT II scores too. (Don’t worry about AP scores. Not expected unless you are attending an American-style high school.)

I got into MIT last year as an international student. Your essays and recommendations REALLY do matter. Having good statistics (transcript, SAT scores) won’t get you in, having them is a given. Distinguish yourself through your essays and make sure your your essays and your recommendations can vouch for your ability and most importantly your FIT into the school. MIT really does value whether you’ll fit into the school. Just being smart is not enough. I had a friend who had way better stats than me but just did not fir into the school. He got rejected by MIT and is currently at another great school (across the Charles actually). Besides that, eat, sleep, love, rise, repeat. GL

It depends on where you’re from, too!
Diversity does matter!
if you’re chinese or Indian; You need international competitions to distinguish yourself.
But if you’re from an exotic country where people don’t usually hear of MIT : You must show you’re a fit and an addition to the establishment in the essays!

I’m from Indonesia, and two people from here got into MIT last year. One of them (my friend) got a gold medal in National Economics Olympiad. His SAT scores were only 1870 (800 M, go figure the rest) and if I’m not wrong therefore he only submitted his TOEFL score, which was 105. His GPA was pretty good, but he was only around top 20 in our 320-graduating class. His essay was not that spectacular, but he mentioned he’s the grandson of a governor of one of the provinces here–I don’t know if that matters though.
