Massachusetts quarantine

Has anyone heard of how the Mass. quarantine might affect OOS students (those living in states not currently exempted) and also any parents that were planning on traveling with their students to help move in? Things can of course change in the next month and this obviously affects way more students than simply Northeastern, but just curious if anyone has heard anything?

To follow up since editing the OP doesn’t seem to be working, a couple of specific questions:

  1. for the student, would traveling in and going straight to campus count as ‘quarantining’? Since many of the students will be coming from out of state, will the university have rooms for them to quarantine in (not necessarily the same accommodations for those who test positive while on campus and need to be quarantined). Or, will students have to quarantine off campus for 2 weeks before being allowed on campus (love my kiddo, but being stuck in a hotel room with them for 2 weeks sounds a bit, ‘challenging’).

  2. for the parents, a similar question. Would parents be allowed to travel from their place of quarantine to campus (one line of thought is that if the parents and student have been cohabitating then allowing the student on campus isn’t much different than allowing the parents). I understand if the parents are restricted to where they can go (e.g. no dorm rooms and only outdoor spaces), but being able to drop your kiddo off and maybe even take a stroll around campus is way better than saying bye at a hotel.

TIA for any insights and/or links (I’ve looked and haven’t found anything that addresses this specific issue).

This probably won’t be helpful… I live in NY with a strict quarantine rules and my D is attending college in our state and our school still hasn’t answered those same questions. We have been told no parents on campus and a couple of other colleges have said students should only bring 2 suitcases and a backpack. It is frustrating to still be waiting for guidance and instructions but sooner or later, the schools will have to announce the procedure.

Tufts is working on a plan in order to comply with the 14 day quarantine…maybe colleges will require students to isolate on campus 14 days prior to start? or hotels? They are probably all figuring this out as things change.

straight to campus would not count as quarantine unless they were isolated on campus without exposure to anyone else…like a sci fi movie!

I just saw somewhere that a negative covid test within a certain number of days before you move in will cover this requirement. Thinking that Northeastern will ask students to do this instead of the quarantine. Or maybe you can get one when you get to school and stop quarantine once you get your negative result?

I heard Brandeis is offering a test on student arrival. Presumably the student quarantines until the result.
