<p>Im applying to MassArt but one of the requirements is that the images be 1 mb and most of mine are beteween 1.40-2.00 should I just try and shrink them on the computer or retake the pictures.</p>

<p>File size is determined by the number of pixels in an image and the compression algorithm applied to the file when saving it. You can reduce file size by down sampling to 72 pixels per inch, and saving the file as a jpeg. The jpeg file format allows you to compress the file size and make it smaller. </p>
