Massel Quad VS North Quad

I’m going to be freshman next year at Brandeis, and i wanna know which quad is better. Can you list the pros and cons of both quads, and can you also tell me your experience in that quad.
thank you

Excited that there’s actually a question involving what I always though College Confidential was really meant for…

Anyway, North vs. Massell, basically people in North love North and people in Massell love Massell.

North:

Pros: Right next to Rabb (where almost all your classes will be), Close to Usdan (the better dining hall), Closer to the Library.

Cons: Corner of campus, not as social usually, a lot of the Triples are here.

Massell:

Pros: Massell Pond (there’s a pond in the center), Sherman (the all you can eat dining hall), Close to the SCC (where Einstein’s bagel’s is, and the 24/7 student center where people study), More social and where a lot of the pre-games are held (that seems to usually be that Massell is where they put all the pre-season freshmen athletes before everyone else gets there, and the athletes are usually the more social crowd),

Cons: Furthest from most of your classes.

I lived in Massell. But, honestly, doesn’t matter which one you live in, they both have plenty of pro’s and con’s.

I loved Massell, and most of my friends in North frequently found themselves walking to Massell. I rarely went to North. But, remember that they are rather close to each other compared to most schools. It’s a different story when it comes to mid-years in The Village.

So yea, most parties are off campus and the same distance from both Massell and North.

Are you saying that all the freshman athletes usually live in Massell? Or just the fall athletes due to preseason early arrival. Would the basketball team’s freshman all live in Massell?

No, just the pre-season I’m told. Because they arrive earlier than the other Freshmen I’ve been told (by pre-season athletes) that they were all put together in Massell. So I know a lot of Basketball, Baseball, etc. who live in North. But no Soccer athletes there.

Massell is much closer to the art, theater and music buildings, if that matters to you.

Eliyahu is completely right about everyone thinking their quad is the best. It’s a cute, long-standing rivalry.

North is closer to most classes and Usdan Student Center, and has a beautiful quad. The buildings, in general, are a little bit nicer - I think they’re more recently renovated.

Massell is closer to music/theater buildings, Shapiro Campus Center, and Sherman Dining Hall. It has a lake in the middle of the quad. It has a reputation for being more social.

Honestly, you’ll probably be happy in either one. I lived in North and had many friends in Massell. Interestingly, we had larger get-togethers in North but I spent more time walking down to Massell to see my friends than they spent visiting me. I think that was just they pattern we adopted, considering Massell is generally considered more social and North is “quieter.” I find North Quad more fun to hang out in during the fall and spring months, though the pond is nice too. Massell is in a much more central part of campus, which is a huge plus - but the social science and humanities buildings are closer to North.

how is the renfield hall?

Renfield is pretty good. I lived there this past year, and can’t really complain about any of it.
