Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I’m going back to look at last year’s thread about merit money to see if I think I can do better on the $$$$. She really wants to go to Oberlin.

The best way to get more money is to have other great offers. Is she still auditioning in other schools in case the money does not work out? If those others give better offers sometimes the number 1 school will improve theirs. Especially if you let them know they would be no. 1 if it were not for the money. Don’t know if Oberlin does that but enough others do.

We still have CCM, Eastman and NEC to go. So far we’ve only gotten a “come audition” response from CCM. That was my plan to have a little leverage with other offers but I didn’t know if it was better to start negotiating with Oberlin before they made additional offers in Feb.

POTO Mom, s couple of related threads

As far as I can tell from Google, there is a Birmingham Conservatoire (music) and a Birmingham Conservatory (classical theatre) but no Birmingham “Conservatorie”. I am therefore going to correct the spelling unless someone tells me otherwise, as well as institute the abbreviation UK for United Kingdom. Note that, in our scheme, this would not be confused with the Universities of Kansas or Kentucky because those would be abbreviated U Kansas and U Kentucky. Does anyone have an opinion on whether we should use Con to mean any of Conservatory, Conservatoire and Conservatorium, or can anyone provide an example where that would lead to confusing two similarly named institutions that accept music majors?
