Master List of Merit Awards

DS just got letter from Case Western, he was awarded Provost scholarship, $15,700/year renewable

Congrats to everyone!

These are two seriously nice awards. Congrats to WC's cousin and to spikeS.

Fabulous news for MoWC's niece and Spikemom's S! Congratulations all around ... we really have some outstanding students!

This is really small stuff money-wise, but huge in terms of "feel-good"...my S got a $600 (for first-year books, $300/semester) in pure merit money from a need-blind, need-only Ivy (Cornell)...came w/"Dean's Scholar" qualification. I think it was probably a factor in his decision to attend there rather than Northwestern, G'town or U VA...

Congrats to all merit scholarship winners--in many cases, the money is key. In all cases it's fantastic recognition for a job well done!

Wonderful news, overanxious mother. Any money that is awarded is fabulous!

overanxiousmother - I so agree that, while the $ amount may be critical for family finances, any dollar amount speaks volumes as recognition for what our kids have accomplished. I, too, found that these awards - of whatever size - had real meaning for my son when we went through the process last year.

Small merit $ may not seem like much compared to the tuition bill, but imagine yourself at the grocery store checkout and they tell you "it's on us this time". How many trips to the store does $300 or $600 cover? Not too shabby, I say!

Baseballmom, that is sooo true. I was having that same thought the other day. My S received a $5,000 / year scholarship offer and we thought, ok that changes the cost from $40K to $35K, still a huge amount of money and not a lot of difference. But when I think about having an extra $400 / month in my pocket, that seems significant.

We should be thankful for what we're offered.

My Mom isnt a poster - so I'll add my own - Catholic University Merit Award $44,000 over 4 years, GPA 3.6, SAT's 1260. Also applying for parish and archidiocese awards.

Only D offered $16,000/yr by Hendrix ($12,000 Academic Scholarship/$4,000 Odyssey Honors & Distinction.) Applied for Hayes Memorial, but may have a serious conflict with that one :(.

Has other offers, too. I'm a new poster and I don't want to sound like a bragger. Should I post them?

yes, please post them. It may help other students, too.

GGT -
Congrat's on your acceptance at Catholic University and the impressive merit award. Best wishes on your other scholarships!

Southern Methodist offered only D the Dean's Scholar (1/2 tuition - 4 years) and she is a finalist for President's Scholar (awards include full tuition and transportation costs and tuition for 1 of their international programs).

Baylor offered President's Baylor Scholarship of $40,000 over 4 years. If she's a NM finalist and makes them her 1st choice, it will be upgraded Regent's Baylor Scholarship (basically full tuition.)

She awaits other non-rolling admission schools. But these have been very nice so far.

The NM offer from Texas A & M was very generous, too. However, she has her heart set on a small, private school.

Daughter just received lovely Trustee's Scholarship to Allegheny!

So far:
full tuition at University of Arizona, full tuition at Arizona State, a handsome scholarship from Drexel at 18,000 a year, a decent one from WPI at 13,000 a year, a smallish one from Colorado School of Mines at $6000 (!)a year. Waiting for more to roll in.....
Stats: 2160 SAT
GPA: Over 5.0
Rank: #1 out of about 400.

fireflyscout and mumsie,

Whee!! This is such fabulous news! ka-ching!

Yay, fireflyscout and mumsie. That's wonderful to hear.

D got $28K Faculty Award from Indiana. Also admitted to Hutton Honors College. Has applied for more merit $$ from Honors College (Usual awards are $1K-$10K).

Stats:

unweighted gpa 3.65
SAT: 2170

Merblajam - I am so pleased to hear about this!

Everyone else - This list of awards is truly mind boggling. Maybe at the end of April, some brave soul could add these up and arrive at a total figure of awards won. It would have to be a very brave soul, as this list is very long!
