S was accepted at University of Michigan, BFA in Jazz Studies, instrument trombone.

Congrats honestmom & son… great to have that first acceptance!

Congratulations to JazzTromboneMom and son.

D was accepted at the Shepherd School of Music, Rice University MM Voice

Congratulations to ABlestMom and daughter.

Congratulations to all those undergrads!

BassDad, is there a thread for grad students?? D’s friends (mostly PhD-conducting) are receiving notices left & right - what about MM performance majors? Did I miss something somewhere?

Thanks for all this fabulous info & effort!

We list the grad students right here along with the undergrads. See ABlestMom’s post above for example. If your daughter has any music school acceptances, we would love to list them here. We do not list friends of CC members, however, only members themselves or their children.

You are welcome.

Ah, yes…I saw ABlestMom’s posting right after I posted!

Any clue as to why PhD students get their notices one week after their auditions?
We have to suffer through weeks of not knowing!

–Will definitely let you know the outcome…

One reason is that there are far fewer PhD or DMA applicants than undergrad applicants. Another is that the music department may have relatively more of the decision power than the admissions office for doctorates than for undergrads, so they don’t have to wait for someone else’s decision.

Hello, all, been a lurker here! I am happy to tell you that S got accepted at the Jazz/Performance Arts program at SUNY Purchase! He will be pursuing jazz piano!

Still waiting for New School of Jazz, but S’s first choice is SUNY Purchase so it does not matter at this point… :)

I’ve been accepted for horn performance to the University of Colorado; no word yet on scholarships.

Congratulations to Momfixit88 and son, and to phrygian17.

I am going to assume both acceptances are for BM programs and the U Colorado is the one in Boulder. Please let me know if that is not the case.

Congrats to everyone for their acceptances! Does anyone know if Oberlin includes their financial aid package with their acceptance letters? I am hopeful D will be accepted, but worried we won’t be able to pay the tuition if her package isn’t enough. Also worried her package will be mostly loans. Thank you.

Oberlin included the FA info with my daughter’s acceptance, but that was several years back. They tend to limit loans to about the Federal Stafford Loan maximums and give out most of their own aid in the form of grants and scholarships. There is some outdated, but still interesting info at [Oberlin College | Office of Financial Aid | Can I Afford Oberlin?](http://new.oberlin.edu/office/financial-aid/overview/)

Thanks, BassDad. I will look at the links.

My son was accepted to The University of the Arts (Phila) for Jazz Performance Drumset with an $11,000 annual Artist Award. Kudos to them for getting this out to him exactly one week after his audition!

Oberlin has some serious money, and they meet 100% of your financial aid, so if you can only afford 3000 then they get the rest.

BassDad, correct, it is a BM in Performance: Jazz Studies. Thanks!

Although Oberlin is quite generous and meets 100% of demonstrated need for all admitted students, I would not exactly say that they have serious money. If you look at the amount of their endowment per current student, it is a lot lower than other schools that are far less generous with financial aid. They just choose to use more of their assets toward financial aid than do many schools. It has been a part of their long-term financial plan to cut back a bit on the financial aid and their stock portfolio suffered along with everyone else’s a couple of years back. It may well have recovered somewhat by now though.

Also, what you or your family consider to be the amount you can afford and what Oberlin considers to be the amount you can afford may not agree. Almost everyone finds their EFC from the FAFSA forms to be a lot more than expected.

There are some outdated but still interesting numbers at http://new.oberlin.edu/office/financial-aid/overview/

Congratulations to jazzdrum and son.
