D was in a similar situation and withdrew from several auditions (for acting, at the Unified auditions in NYC, so it’s a bit different.) She emailed the departments–usually the person who had sent the audition invitation or confirmation. Only one of three responded but they really had no reason to respond. I’m sure they were easily able to fill those slots and were glad to have them available. Could have called but email seemed more solid.

You should definitely let then know you are cancelling so they can adjust the schedule, but whether you call or email will probably not make a difference. Congrats on your daughter’s acceptance!

My S opted to cancel his audition at CCM. He just emailed the admissions person who’d sent the audition confirmations. She answered him right away.

Think it depends on the school. Some of the Universities already accepted my d academically and she has a pending audition date. She “declined” admission and returned the card and also emailed the music department with a cc to the professor cnclg the audition.

Good luck!

D accepted…Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts - BM - Music Ed, Clarinet

Update to the acceptance at St. Rose: My son received combined academic/talent scholarships in the amount of $21,000

@Curlymom - S sent, “thank you but” email to cancel audition to dept. and then a written withdraw to the university admissions dept. It was well received by both.

*Congrats to all the newly accepted!!

My daughter was accepted last week to Drexel University’s music industry program–BS. Also was accepted earlier to University of Pittsburgh, BA, Music. She plays the flute. Waiting on other applications.

Congratulations to CruiseQueen and daughter.

Congratulations to electricbassmom and son.

Congratulations to middleoftheroad and daughter.

I would appreciate it if we could keep the postings in this thread to announcements of acceptances and scholarships, and congratulatory messages regarding same. Please start new threads with appropriate titles if you have questions related to the admissions process. That will make the answers to your question much easier to find months or years from now, will also keep the clutter on this thread to a minimum and will probably get you more answers in the long run.

Just learned S is accepted at CCM for Jazz Studies, piano! FYI, checked his U Cincinnati online status update on a whim this afternoon and it was just posted there today.

Nice! Lots of Steinways to play :)

Congratulations, jazzpianomom1, and thanks for the tip. My S is also accepted to CCM for Jazz Studies (trombone)!

Jazzpianomom1, thanks to your post I knew to check my own CCM admission status and I was accepted for music education. However, I auditioned for the double major with piano performance and it says nothing about performance on the admissions page. Does anyone know if they haven’t decided yet or if I wasn’t accepted for performance?

Congratulations to you and your son, jazzkat! I thought that tip would be useful.

And congratulations to you, too, PianoMan12, on the music education acceptance. My hunch on the piano performance part is that they are still listening to more pianists on the 24th at the NYC regional auditions and will finish reviewing all the classical piano candidates after that. But that’s just a hunch and definitely not in my arena of knowledge.

I figure that I still have a shot because in the all pianist meeting we had the department chair said they’d be sending admissions decisions out by April 1, which isn’t even close to now. Thanks for your ingenious “on a whim” check!

Also, Jazzkat and Jazzpianomom1, when did your sons audition? I auditioned on the 11th, so I’m curious if your sons were there on that day too. If they were, I may be able to assume that I didn’t get in for performance, but then again, I’m classical, not jazz so it may yet be inconclusive even then.

Congratulations to jazzpianomom1 and son, jazzkat and son, and PianoMan12.

PianoMan12, my S auditioned on 1/28. In the general parents’ meeting, they said that each instrument or division has their own timetable for sending out acceptances. We then learned from the jazz studies chair that they would evaluate all of the jazz applicants as a group and issue acceptances after the last auditions on 2/11. While I don’t know for certain, it seems reasonable to assume that you won’t hear about your piano performance acceptance until after those auditions are complete.

@CurlyMom–my D also originally had 9 auditions scheduled. She cancelled 2 after deciding she didn’t want to attend those colleges. She e-mailed the person who set-up her auditions at both schools and heard back immediately. At one she also e-mailed the professor because she had been in contact with him.

We have two more acceptances to report:

D has been admitted for double major in oboe performance + music ed at:

SUNY Fredonia School of Music
Rutgers University (Mason Gross School of Music)

already reported her acceptance into Hartt

Good luck everyone! I personally can’t wait till all the financial packages are received, the decision is made and we can relax again!

I agree with you Parkmama! I woke up 3:15 a.m. thinking I forgot to hit “submit” on the FAFSA!!! Couldn’t go back to sleep and had work on top of that. Ugh. Can’t wait til everything is over and a decision has been made. So mcuh to think about. Best of luck to you and your D.
