Master List of Music School Acceptances, Fall 2012

Congratulations, jtrain17. What might that primary instrument be?

Last one for my D: Hartt School of Music, BM Flute Perf., $17,000. Now it’s decision time!

Scholarship info for son, trombone performance, BM

Indiana (Jacobs) - offered $14,000 music scholarship
Arizona State (Herberger) - offered $11,000 merit, $2000 music

Accepted in Berklee!

I haven’t sent in my materials yet but I talked to my parents and we established that I’m going to Lawrence!

DS was accepted at Berklee.

Congratulations on coming to a decision, PianoMan12! I hear so many wonderful things about Lawrence. Make sure you get to spend some time at Bjorklunden – that sounds so awesome!

So much great news on this forum. Congratulations everyone. S accepted to Peabody (organ) and the double degree program with Johns Hopkins (physics and philosophy).

The only one outstanding is McGill. Not a word.

Congratulations to everyone!! Catching up: D admitted to Drexel for music industry received a $24,000 AJ Drexel scholarship. Also admitted to Fordham-Lincoln Center for a BA in music, $11,000 scholarship. And Syracuse University for a BA in music. Other acceptances but not for music.

mrky, my son’s understanding from McGill was that the results are rolling, and will probably go to the end of the first week in April. His Minerva account showed no activity, not even any acknowledgement of the audition. It want from “See Checklist” to “Admitted”. He recieved an email that he should check his Minerva account for the decision, though this came sometime after he noticed the change in his Minerva account. Good luck!

Thanks VMT. His Minerva also says audition pending, or something like that, even though it was in February!

Son accepted to the following dual degree programs for BM in percussion and BA in some other academic area yet to be determined:

University of Kentucky (merit and music award)
IU/Jacobs SOM (merit and music award)
University of Cincinnati/CCM (merit and music award)
Northwestern (waitlisted)
Oberlin College (merit money)/Conservatory (waitlisted)
Bard College/Conservatory (merit money)

He is leaning toward Bard or Oberlin (if he gets in off of waitlist). Does anyone have any advice on waitlist at Oberlin or Northwestern? I assume if you do get in you don’t get any music money? Would love to get anyone’s perspective on the above. Feel free to PM me.

Incoming Music Scholarship results for my son, all of which he was accepted at:

 • University of Florida: $2000
 • Stetson University: William E. Duckwitz Talent Scholarship $22,500
 • University of South Carolina: $3,500 plus out of state tuition reduction of $11,672 per year
 • Have not received scholarship offers from FSU, UCF or USF as of yet (but was accepted into music programs)

Noting that he was already leaning towards South Carolina and it’s a strong offer, I am 98% sure that he will be part of the “Gamecock Nation” this Fall…tough for a Gator Dad to swallow, but I’m excited for him.

Thanks musician34 for the info. Congrats on the acceptance to NEC. It is a fantastic school!

mrky, my son wrote to music admissions to make sure they knew that he auditioned (ha! ha!) We were a little worried since Minerva said the audition hadn’t yet taken place and he was there in February.

@margun

I’m waitlisted at Northwestern for MM Flute Performance and they told me that scholarships/aid will be available if someone declines their offer. For the flute studio, the waitlist isn’t degree-based so if an undergrad declines I could get in, so the scholarship/aid will have to be adjusted based on degree, etc. They reassured me that anyone on the waitlist is “worthy of admission” so they are still considered for the same amount of aid. They have to use waitlists because they have such small studios compared to the size of the university and they don’t want people declining their offers because it ends up hurting the school’s ranking, etc. They’re my top choice so I’m dying to get off the waitlist!!

Congratulations to Mater and daughter, CAtbonemom and son, nspire25, PianoMan12, electricbassmom and son, mrky and son, middleoftheroad and daughter, margun and son, and StoneMagic and son.

nspire25, can you give me any more details, such as your major, your degree program and your primary instrument or voice?

electricbassmom, ditto for the degree program and major.

All, I am not putting waitlistings in the spreadsheet, but it is still interesting to hear about them. Good luck to all those who are hoping to turn that into an acceptance and please let us know if that happens.

The reason most schools don’t want people declining their offers is because it’s too late to re-issue them to someone else, so it’s essentially scholarship money gone to waste that they could have offered to another deserving student who would be happy to accept. That scholarship money could make the difference for a family struggling to send their child to college (well who isn’t these days), so its understandable from the school’s perspective that they want to make offers to people who have a high likelihood of accepting.

Got a 20,000 a year scholarship from CIM!

Well it’s finally over. I have heard from everywhere and I am very happy with the results
Juilliard: Accepted, $10,000/year
Curtis: Denied
Rice: Denied
Eastman: Accepted, $24,000/year
NEC: Accepted, $14,000/year
USC: Accepted, waiting on scholarship
Oberlin: Accepted, $18,000/year
MSM: Accepted, $8,000/year

My parents are thrilled about the scholarships! Now I have to figure out about who I want to study with…still kind of bummed about Rice and Curtis but I have nothing to complain about :)
