What does this board think of music audition “clues”. Maybe I should start a thread on the topic. For instance, at the end of an audition, or maybe later in an e-mail, the applicant is invited to apply to a summer music camp where one of the professors attending the audition will be teaching. Clue to an acceptance or merely incidental? It is unknown if all applicants got such an invitation. What if an applicant is asked to see one of the profs later and they have a long discussion on her goals? Clue or are they simply trying to find out what is in the applicant’s head? What an interesting process.

If the summer program is associated with Boston University, it’s a big clue of acceptance.

Son’s acceptances:

University of the Arts, musical theater, BFA
Rider, musical theater, BM

Well, what do you know? I just posted on this thread for the first time ever, complaining that my prospective grad student wasn’t supposed to hear from any of his schools for a few more weeks. And, as luck would have it, just to make a fool out of me, my son got his first college admission letter in the mail this evening!

He was accepted to CCM for a MM with a major in Voice. Yay! :)

(I just now saw your post, lastbird. Yes, I agree. Two weeks is an awfully short time to make a big decision! Eastman will get him a decision by April 15?! Hahhaa! That’s ridiculous. Good luck with that. I hope it comes much sooner than the 15th!)

SaratogaParent, welcome to CC and congratulations. I would like to point out that there is a whole section devoted to musical theater over at [Musical Theater Major - College Confidential](Musical Theater Major - College Confidential Forums) and they have their own acceptance threads. I think your son’s acceptances more properly belong there unless he happens to be in a dual major program involving musical theater and, say, vocal performance or some other type of music major. It is admittedly a pretty fine distinction, but the MT world is enough different from what straight-up music majors face that maintaining two distinct sections really does make sense.

Congratulations to SimpleLife and son.

Congratulations Simple Life on your S’s MM acceptance, and to everyone else who has reported here. My S is also waiting to hear MM results, he has one acceptance in his pocket, one unofficial acceptance, and waiting on a third. (He is posting under his own name so I have not wanted to skew the results by reporting specifics). He will want to visit at least one of the schools again before making a final decision, especially since financials will have a large role to play so the first few weeks in April will be very busy!

Lastbird, Eastman is notoriously late and seems randomly organized, some will hear before the April 1 mark, some later. I agree, that does not leave much time for decision making and has been the cause for much angst and guessing as the scattered reports are posted. If you look at previous years Master Lists you will see how the melodrama played out.

Four years ago my S played the waiting list game with his first choice school and did not have an answer until just a few days before the final notification deadline. That added a whole other dimension to the process.

Good luck to all!

D just got word via Wolverine Access that she is waitlisted for Michigan (BM, piano performance). Disappointing, but better than a “no.” I read that the yield rate for UM is 40% overall, so is 60% of Accepts ultimate say no, perhaps chances remain fairly good.

^being waitlisted in the SOM at Michigan is not the same as being waitlisted at UMich in general – very few are put on the waitlist, and they try to balance the yield. So I’ll send your D a little “go blue” mojo and my congrats nonethless ;)

Just got a phone call today with acceptance to University of Michigan for Voice!! I actually didn’t believe it when I heard. I have been checking my wolverine status for the past 3 weeks!

BassDad, for scholarships do you want us to post the total amount of $ we received in scholarships at the school or just music scholarships?

MToropera, congratulations. I presume this is a BM for classical vocal Performance. Please let me know if that is not the case.

Sopranos, I like to keep track of merit scholarships, be they for academic or musical achievement. I prefer not to add in the need-based aid.

Yes BM Classical Vocal Performance !
Thank you!!

Okay well here is the scholarship info I have now.

Western Michigan- $9,000 per year
Xavier- $25,750 per year

Haven’t posted on other daughter (twins). Accepted at CU Boulder and Ithaca - 15K scholarship at Ithaca. Viola Performance.

MToropera, congratulations! I wonder if they told you any information about scholarships. I was accepted on 2/27 and still waiting for the scholarship decisions. So nervous! Thank you!

Klaustacy thanks so much congrats to you as well!
No I haven’t heard yet, I’m pretty sure they said in the information session that it would be mailed to us after we are notified of an acceptance. I will let you know if I do!

Mtoropera & Klaustacy - the U Michigan music admissions talk that we attended on Feb. 8 reported that financial aid/scholarship information would come at the end of March. Good luck!

I have not posted here in a few years(since undergrad), but have been actively lurking since my dtr (a soprano) has been on the audition circuit this winter for MM programs.
She was notified on 3/5 of an acceptance to UTexas at Austin/Butler School. Like SimpleLife, she did report that the programs she auditioned for did not promise notification until early April, but they want a decision by April 15.

Congratulations to Nonmusiciandad and daughter #2, and to vocalmom and daughter.

My daughter got an email today from a voice professor from University of Missouri-Columbia telling her how impressed they all were with her and that they were hoping that she was considering MU. She asked her to keep them posted on what she was planning on doing. I guess that’s an acceptance? Sure sounds like one to me…

This would be for a BM in VP.
