Master List of Music School Acceptances

blondviolin- Not weird at all. Nothing in this entire process is guaranteed. It just means that you really nailed that audition, and that's the ultimate decisive factor. Regardless, you've got a multitude of exceptional choices.
Congratulations.

And congrats to all who posted.

pianomanmom's S: will attend MSM, Jazz Piano

Blondeviolin - I'd tell Oberlin to take a hike. Their violin dept. isn't that great since the Vamoses left for Northwestern.

stringmom - I noticed your D's acceptance to Hart. Would that be, by any chance, with Anton Miller?

Ideally, yes. D has studied with him before and would very much like to be in his studio; he's the primary reason she applied to Hartt. However, the school won't make studio assignments until after they have all the acceptances in and they won't guarantee that she'll be placed with him. D's been out of town for the last week, but now that she's back she's going to e-mail Mr. Miller and see what he says. Do you know anything about the other violin teachers there?

For those who got into Eastman:

How long did it take for your financial aid pakage to come after the admissions office called to let you know that you were accepted?

It was one week for us.

No sorry stringmom, I don't know any of the other string teachers there. Mr Miller was also my D's reason for applying at Hartt last year. He is wonderful. It was a tough choice for her, but finances ended up playing a major role in her decision.

Is it me or does there seem to be a darth of composers on the master list? Or at least composers planning to major in composition.
What direction is music heading in! Are we bound to play Beethoven over and over again? Please kill me if that's the case...
(PS. I see like one composer or composition related thread once in a blue moon on this site...)

OK, we are all set now, and happy! Son (sax, jazz) got into Michigan, UVM, and Berklee; waitlisted at UMiami and Oberlin; rejected at NEC and Wesleyan. He received very nice merit awards from UVM, Berklee, and Michigan and will attend Michigan. Soooo glad that it is over; what a challenging year (junior to senior spring) for young musicians. Good luck everyone!

The conservatory vs. public school decision is a tough one for me, still have no idea what to do. juniorbill-just curious as to whether your daughter is attending Eastman or not, seeing that she's a fellow clarinet student

StringMom- my son is a graduating viola performance major at Hartt. His contact with the violin faculty for the most part has been in chamber coachings; he was happy with all of them in that capacity.

My son saw Anton Miller's on campus performance about two weeks ago, and was mesmerized. He doesn't get impressed too easily, but he was awed.

Emlyn Ngai is an exceptional performer of the baroque violin and a consumate chamber artist. Katie Lansdale is a well known solo & chamber performer, has studied with Gingold & Weilerstein, and has a passion for Bach. Anthea Kreston is probably the youngest of the group (closet in age to Miller), and her students love her. Mickey Reisman and Leonid Sigal have continental roots. Reisman was with the Israel Phiharmonic and is currently with the Hartford Symphony; Sigal graduated from Moscow Conservatory and has studied with Stern, Menuhin, and Zukerman. He's concertmaster of Hartfprd Symphony. Teri Einfeldt and Linda Fiore are Suzuki specialists, and if I'm not mistaken concentrate on the music ed violin non-performance majors, and are equally involved with the Community Division students.

I'd be happy to attempt to answer any Hartt/Hartford questions that may arise.

Just adding a few things that seemed to have been lost in the cut-and-paste process over the past week or so...

I got accepted to Oklahoma City University (today!) with a very large merit scholarship. Music Industry on Flute.
Accepted to U of Miami for Music Industry on Flute.
Accepted to northeastern music industry program, although there was no audition, it's a Bachelor of Science degree.
Rejected-U of Oklahoma music school, USC

I wanted to add Peabody to my list (and a waitlist at Eastman). Not sure how to add, is it simply cut and paste? BASSDAD can you help.

Now for the decisions: I think I am deciding between Peabody and CCM

rhpsdysre, I just noticed your question. It's good to see another clarinet perfomer listed. Our daughter keeps going back and forth on where to attend. She really wanted Eastman but it is quite a stretch financially, and we have begun hearing mixed things about it for clarinet. McGill seems like a good program with good teachers and good ensembles. And last night I spoke with Burt Hara at UMN and was very impressed. She has a tough choice. She considered U Mich and Mich St. but didn't visit either; thought about Indiana and took a lesson with Howard Klug but decided against it; and would have liked to apply at Northwestern but was put off by the cost. How about you?

Juniorbill, DS is also having a hard choice. In his particular case, Eastman would be about 5K/year (total cost) more than the other schools that accepted him for vocal performance: BU, Indiana, Chicago College of Performing Arts & UMass Amherst. His current teacher recommends that he wait until grad school to enjoy what Indiana and BU offer and feels extremely sure that CCPA has the dream teacher for him, a wonderful artist with a long career singing the same parts that DS will aspire to singing. DH and I and the whole DFamily visited and liked Eastman and thought it was a good fit for DS. I guess DS needs to see if there is an equivalent teacher for him at ESM. On our visit to the Voice department we heard that the teacher would be determined before DS had to decide. Is it the same for clarinet? That could make a difference in the decision for you.
Voicestudent, hope you get off the waitlist!

Our DD was admitted into a specific clarinet teacher's studio at Eastman. For us ESM would be between 10-14k/year more than the other options.

the cost and the unfriendly atmosphere of both the school and prof put me off of northwestern, indiana i took a lesson with james campbell and i liked it and cosot would be cheapest with scholarships considered, im just not sold on it, love the prof at michigan state but its just not the caliber music school that is necessary these days, pretty much im between eastman and michigan right now, eastman is about 10K more with scholarships since i have instate tuition at michigan, and thats somewhat of a factor, ive heard some mixed things about ESM for clarinet too, but i love ken grant, the students ive met are great, and it just has great networking opportunities, so its very tempting, michigan is just much more convenient for me, cost and location and still has a prof that id be happy with. I'm a dual degree student, so thats an issue too. Big decision, so little time! ive heard great things about mcgill, wish i would have applied, but its a littttttttle late...

I am going to Oberlin for voice! I am so excited!
