Master List on Admittance Rates for this year

My son is a rising senior and considering application to a variety of schools for entry in Fall, 2007. He and I are interested in learning about the RD and ED admit rates at many schools for the most recently admitted class.

One of the schools that S is considering is the University of Virginia. With thanks to bo_bombers, here is the link to an article in the Cavalier Daily about the in-state and out-of-state admit rates for the most recent class.

<a href="http://www.cavalierdaily.com/CVArti...=26599&pid=1425%5B/url%5D">http://www.cavalierdaily.com/CVArti...=26599&pid=1425</a></p>

Please provide a link if you know where to obtain this information for any of the many schools commonly discussed on CC.

IF any of the schools you are interested in has a common data set, the information will be there.

You can access the college newspapers, you can do a search and find the ED/RD admit rates.

You can purchase the U.S. news online version the information will be there also

All of the data that is in the Common Data Set and USNWR is a year old as it references the 2004-05 information. I am looking for the results for the just completed RD period (as well as last fall's ED period), ie, the data for 2005-2006 for which there is not yet yield data, but there is some acceptance data out there. Some of the school newspapers (like UVA's) have published this data, but many have not or at least it is not readily available in the searches that I have done.

The results for this years admission cycle will not be out unitl later this year. The new CDS comes out in october.

The Current CDS has information for the class of 09 (2005-06 admissions cycle).

THe new U.S. news online version comes out in august.

sybbie719

I may be misreading the data or misunderstand what I am looking at, so please forgive me if I am wrong and please set me straight if that is the case. I think that the data you reference is for students who entered in September, 2005 and I am talking about students who have been admitted for September, 2006.

I believe that the full common data set is for students who applied, were accepted and matriculated and I know that this is not yet completed for the class of 2010 as colleges are still working through their wait list and finalizing their numbers (you rightly point out that it will be available in October).

Take a moment and read the link that I posted above about the University of Virginia. It is an article from their student newspaper that was published April 4, 2006 and gives admission statistics for THIS YEAR, ie, for students who have been admitted for September, 2006. My hope is that there is information currently available from many schools (like UVA) that would illuminate admissions statistics for students potentially entering September, 2006. I suspect that many other schools have released such data and I was hoping that others on CC might have links to such articles.

dajada your link doesn't work, can you put the right URL up please? UVA is a school i'm interested in.

<a href="http://www.cavalierdaily.com/CVArti...=26599&pid=1425%5B/url%5D">http://www.cavalierdaily.com/CVArti...=26599&pid=1425</a></p>

if this still does not work, then try from Post # 11 on the following thread

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=194367%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=194367</a></p>

Hi dajada07,

You are right about the common data set. while they you will find the overall number of applications and subsequent admissions, waitlists, ed etc. the bulk of the information is about students who have decided to matriculate.

I have read the link you provided and I am going back to my original suggestion. Your best bet would be to look at the college newspapers of the schools that your son is interested in attending.

Keep in mind that even those numbers are not "final" because there is a summer melt as students are called off of waitlists at other places and decide to attend other schools.

My D attends Dartmouth and here is the link from their school's newpaper regarding admissions for the class of 2010

Class of 2010 receives decisions

Class of 2010 yields routine percentage

I am borrowing this data from a thread on the parents forum:

A "Perfect Storm" in Admissions This Year

here is xiggi's post # 2 hope it helps

Some numbers for 2010 at the Ivies for applications, admissions, and admit rates:

22753 2109 9.27% Harvard
21099 1823 8.64% Yale
17653 1792 10.15% Princeton

20479 3622 17.69% Penn
28097 6927 24.65% Cornell
162179 23215 14.31% Total

Changes in applications in one year:
2009 2010
22796 22753 -0.19% Harvard
19451 21099 8.47% Yale
16516 17653 6.88% Princeton
16900 18313 8.36% Brown
18216 19848 8.96% Columbia
12615 13937 10.48% Dartmouth
18749 20479 9.23% Penn
24452 28097 14.91% Cornell
149695 162179 8.34% Total

Changes in applications in two years:

19674 21099 7% Yale
13695 17653 29% Princeton
15268 18313 20% Brown
18236 19848 9% Columbia
12500 13937 11% Dartmouth
18202 20479 13% Penn
20822 28097 35% Cornell
138149 162179 17% Total

I could care less about yield rate. Only admission rate. Because if NYU were to suddenly get 100% yield, it's not my problem.

sybbie,

Many thanks for the detailed reply and helping me better understand all of this data, particularly as it relates to the Ivies.

My son is considering applying to several Ivies as well as other schools, including Duke, Stanford, Northwestern, Rice, Vanderbilt and others. If anyone has the links that might provide data on acceptances this spring at these schools, please post them. In addition, I encourage and appeal for others to post links for other schools that other readers might be interested in. Thanks.

Man, no matter how you look at the Ivy landscape, Cornell ends up on the bottom.

Sybbie719, you are an information god (goddess?)! I am so impressed by the quantity and quality of the information that is available on this site. My only regret is that I found it after the college application process was completed for my oldest child.

Dajada07, best of luck to you and your son as you begin the process.
