Master of Arts in Teaching Dual Degree

I need a college with a dual ba/ma in teaching program, so that I can start doing my ma work while earning my ba, and thus complete my ma in 5 years. So far the only colleges I have heard with the program are Drew U in NJ, and Bard. (I am not looking for any state schools). I also need the college to be in the northeast. Do you know of some list on the internet that would have this info, or perhaps there is already a post like this? If you know of a college with such a program please post! Feedback is much appreciated!!

It depends on what you want to teach. Lots of schools have 5 year programs, but it depends on the program.

History. There is a master of arts in teaching, then other masters of arts in special education or elementary education, or even education leadership. but i want master of arts in teaching, it doesn’t matter what you’re subject will be, it’s education. but thanks anyway.

Just to clarify… the master of arts is FOR teaching, not for a subject im going to teach… Its the same as a master of arts in education. its a field of study in itself, i wouldnt be teaching education either…

Every M.A.T. that I’m aware of includes include both education courses and courses in what you’re going to teach…that’s what usually differentiates it from a M.Ed.

Quote from Colgate’s website: "The M.A.T. program provides advanced course work in a selected discipline and in educational studies, leading to secondary school teaching certification. "

At Colgate, they apparently automatically cover 80% of the tuition for M.A.T. students: http://www.colgate.edu/academics/departments/educationalstudies/m.a.t.graduateprogram.html

Does Colgate have 5 year program? I looked on the website but I didn’t think it was a dual degree program

Lots of MAT programs are only one year, or one year plus a semester of student teaching. You don’t have to do it all at the same university. Once you have the history degree, the year of MAT coursework would be all the education theory and methodology. Look for MAT programs in Secondary Education at petersons.com or any of the other college search engines and see what comes up.
