Mastering Gov. Essays

I noticed that I do well on the multiple choice part of the Government test, but the essays are exceptionally challenging. They really require you to know the U.S. government like the back of your hand. I have a lot of the general ideas about how the U.S. government functions but I don't feel like I can get to know it well enough to get a 4 or 5 on the AP exam.

I read the politics section of CNN all the time, and understand that.. but other than keeping up with politics on the news, what should I try and focus on for essays? I feel like I could be asked anything and the topic is enormous.

Heres what im planning on doing. They always ask at least one questions focusing on supreme court decisions, so Im goign to know like 8 issues backward and forward(ex: abortion, segregation, rights of accused, selective incorporation, etc). Then, they usually ask a data based question which will just require general outside information. The other 2 ill hope I will know well from my reading. Im using barrons primarily.

I suggest stop watching CNN. Try The Economist, BBC, NPR, or something else for a change.
