My cousin is graduating next year with a major in econ and a minor in math. But now she wants to go into accounting but she can't change her major. Can she get a masters in accounting? Is that the same thing as a MBA. Does she need work experience for that?

An MS in accounting or taxation is not the same as an MBA. While an MBA is a general two-year program (with marketing, finance, accounting, economics, etc.), an MS is a one-year accounting-only program. Thus, it is more specialized than an MBA. However, an MBA with a concentration in accounting is more highly regarded than an MS.

I don't know if an MS in accounting requires work experience, but if your cousin wants to do accounting, she would most likely be sitting for the CPA exam. That requires experience, so she might as well get experience first. You don't have to do accounting undergrad to get into a Big Four.
