Hello, I graduated in December of 2012 from a state school in PA with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with at 2.615 GPA. I screwed around my freshman and sophomore years and butchered my GPA. It’s now a few years later and I’ve been thinking about going back to school for a Masters in Education or Special Education. I substitute taught for about a year and I loved it! I think it’d be a great career change for me but I was wondering if it’s even possible and, if so, what my options are? I know my wife, who is now a teacher, had to keep a 3.0 GPA for her undergraduate and we wasn’t sure if my 2.615 was carried over to my graduate or how any of that worked. I’m thinking about going to the local college and talking to the registrar’s office but I figured I’d ask here first. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer!
Usually, you need at least a 3.0 undergrad GPA to get admitted to a grad program. A lot of education schools are somewhat less difficult for admission. Good recs, relevant experience, and a good personal statement might help. You also could talk to the department chair about your options (rather than with the reigistrar). If nothing else, it might be possible to gain admission on probation, perhaps with a reduced courseload to begin, and then if you do well, you might gain full admittance.
