Masters in Marketing Help

So a few years ago I graduated with a BA in Liberal Studies. I’ve since decided I would like to pursue a marketing career, specifically one that heavily involves writing since I enjoy it and am fairly skilled at it. I’ve been browsing through marketing careers and college programs and it’s such a broad field that I’m having trouble finding a clear path. I’m definitely not interested in sales, cold-calling, or anything like that. Am I correct in assuming that I need to go back to school to find work in this field? Also, BA programs in marketing seem more prevalent than MA programs in it. Should I possibly consider a second BA in marketing? I really appreciate any help or insight.

Thanks!

No, don’t get a second BA. That’s a waste of time.

You might be having a difficult time finding an MA in marketing because the MBA is the pretty standard business degree. Then you can go down different paths via concentrations - marketing being one of them. There are some schools that do have a master’s in marketing, like Columbia, CUNY Baruch, USC, and Johns Hopkins. (They call them a master of science in marketing, though - MS).

You can indeed work in marketing with just a BA, though - you just need to find some entry-level jobs. In fact, you probably should work for a few years first before going back to get your MS or MBA; you’ll be more competitive for more programs with work experience (particularly for that MBA - business experience is practically required).
