Masters or Bachelors in Construction Management?

Good afternoon,

I am currently researching graduate programs in the field of construction management. I am deeply interested in the construction process and desire to one day manage heavy construction projects. I am currently a senior, graduating in December, enrolled in an unrelated BS degree (Environmental Management) at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I have been reviewing the curriculum for both graduate and undergraduate degrees in construction management. It seems like the bachelors degree is much more in-depth and technical. So here is my question.

Would it make more sense to gain a certificate in construction management from UCLA or Berkeley and then enroll in a graduate program thereafter? Or would pursuing a second bachelors degree give better career prospects? If I were to pursue a masters I would more then likely gain field experience.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you!

I saw your post and since I am considering a similar option for my bachelors, construction management, probably from CalPoly Pomona, I thought I would chime in. When doing homework on the various programs out there, I noticed that USC’s MRED, which isn’t exactly a construction management degree per say, was a good idea. They have good connections in the local Real Estate market, with relevant internships and job opportunities, that can get you into a very similar position as a “construction management” graduate degree would, but probably of a higher caliber as this is USC we are talking about.

Can you tell me how good the Construction Management program at SLO is?
