Masters Program or transfer

I'm an incoming student at the University of Washington and am considering applying for an MFA at Yale in either fiction writing or acting. What are some qualities that set students apart in the application process other than their quality of work for the audition? What GPA is expected and what kinds of activities should I include on a resume to distinguish myself in the highly selective admissions process? I would like to learn from my mistakes in high school by planning out my education path and school choices in advance. Thanks for any input!

PS would it be better to transfer? UW was not my first choice for a school

Yale Grad school Masters (writing) is extremely coveted. Yale Drama is amongst the most selective in the country. I can’t tell you what either dept seeks in its successful applicants but you should know that odds are extremely tough. Speaking to your current professors – about what eventual pursuit of an MFA/MA (English) would look like – might be a good start. Indeed, some of your instructors/grad assistants my be in Masters programs – you’d frankly, need to outshine them.

This is really just a repeat of my response to your thread of the same name on the Harvard forum: <a href=“Possible Transfer or Masters - Harvard University - College Confidential Forums”>Possible Transfer or Masters - Harvard University - College Confidential Forums;

Your chances as a transfer applicant to Yale are about 2% to 3%percent: http://admissions.yale.edu/transfer</a>

As you haven’t even started yet at the University of Washington, you best hit the ground running.
