I am looking for a list of Questbridge colleges that only match if you have a 0 EFC. Does anyone know if such a list exists? Thanks.

No such list exists. Schools don’t match based on your EFC. However, I do know that Yale will ONLY select you during the match round if your EFC is 0. I am sure that is there are other schools like that. Not many kids are selected during the match round. However, many more are selected during the RD round with very generous FA packages

You could look at each individual school to see what they say about a zero EFC.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. I think my DD is going to apply to Questbridge next year, and we are just working on a college list.

There are also post that they do not match unless your a URM, you may want to take that into consideration.

Matching isn’t everything QB has to offer. It is possible to get a full ride through the RD process - your financial situation is reviewed each year.

so cich, one can be selected for qb (vs solly, cholly) but not get the match and apply RD? So if this were the case , in your RD app, are you supposed to say ‘I was selected into the QB pgm?’

Is saying you are QB during the nonmatch, regular decision good or bad for an applicant? wd nt it saying right at the outset of teh app ’ My family does not have that much money’, and therefore might there be an anti selection against this app?

When I contacted Yale about the 0 EFC, they indicated that it was not necessary to have 0 EFC. Now, their policy and their practices may be different… I cannot say anything to that.

idic5, there is a QB process for RD applications that will be obvious to the schools you are a QB finalist, but otherwise, yes, there is a place (usually fee waiver) to indicate you are a QB finalist. If you are not a finalist, then you don’t indicate QB affiliation, except with the few partner schools that still provide “goodies”.

In regards to “anti selection” due to your finances, if you are concerned about that, do not apply to need aware schools… only apply to need blind. Usually financial aid department and admissions department are entirely separate.

The quote below is from the financial aid tab for Yale on the QB website:

Yale will only offer admission through the National College Match to students whose parents qualify to make zero contribution to college costs. (Students who are not eligible for a zero parent contribution will be considered for admission to Yale in regular decision and will still qualify for extremely generous aid calculated to meet full financial need, with no loans required.)

Does anyone know how many Questbridge finalists have an EFC of 0?

I was hoping to be admitted into Yale through the National College Match…but the 0 EFC requirement…makes me so depressed right now because I know for a fact that my EFC is above 0. there goes my chance of being matched to Yale.

What is approximately the highest income a household can make if they have an efc of 0?

That is going to depend on the school. For example, at Yale the Parental EFC is 0 for income under 65k. This is on the high end. Other schools have a lower threshhold. If your parents are willing to share their tax return with you, you can run the NPC on the website. Be aware that if your parents are self-employed and/ or divorced, the numbers may not be accurate. For the most part, QB schools are going to take the non- custodial parent’s income into consideration when calculating the EFC.

In that case, won’t every Questbridge finalist be able to apply to Yale during the match? I actually have my parents’ tax returns and I definitely can rank Yale since my parents made under $2K last year.

Yes, every QB match finalist could apply to Yale and most of them would have a 0 EFC. I have no idea how many do apply. Working on memory from a previous post, I think three or four finalists are accepted at Yale during the match round. The rest are accepted during the RD round. My son was not selected as a finalist, applied to Yale SCEA and received essentially the same FA package that he would have received through QB. Good luck with the process. Just a couple weeks and the app will be available! :)

Thanks. I hope your son enjoys Yale. I am bracing myself for August when all the applications and essays come out. I already wrote the biographical essay. I was wondering if I could send it to you.

iwk4mit - I sent you pm.
