Match/chance me for CS at MIT/Stanford/UCB/UW, looking for matches and safeties

Umass requires one letter. did you use commom app ? You have two.

Anyway most schools assume you haven’t seen your letter. So if it includes Stanford…so what.

If it’s in common app, get it in. I think you’re over complicating.

Where can we see the CS specific admit rate for L&S Berkeley? (And UCSC)? 2.9%?! Do you know the admit rate for Data Science? Thanks!

The specific rate for CS for 2022 at UCB was posted by a parent that had access to Cal answers and linked a screen shot. Data science is not listed. For Fall 2022, it was not necessary to declare the CS major on the application since the College of L&S does not admit by major however, for Fall 2023 High Demand majors which includes CS and DS, you must select these majors as your 1st choice for any chance at pursing it at UCB.

For UCSC, use this link and the admissions funnel tab. This data is from 2021. No data for 2022 which based on the CC discussion posted is probably lower.

UCSC admits into a “proposed major” and then you need to take the pre-req courses to officially declare the major. Freshmen who are interested in a BSOE program should be sure to indicate a BSOE proposed major. Students who do not indicate a BSOE program or who apply as undeclared might not be able to pursue a BSOE program.

Thank you so much. That CS admit % decreased a lot! Do you have any idea why? Is it because of the deferred students from previous year? And any thoughts on how this cycle will look?
Where can we find Data Science admit data? Now that you have to declare these majors right away at Cal, have to make some quick decisions. DS is on the fence on which one but if one has a higher admit rate, perhaps that is the way to go.

For UCB, unless someone has access to Cal Answers, I am not aware of where you could find the DS admit data.

As to the decrease in the CS admit rate, I am sure there are many factors including the CS department has been at capacity for several years and that is why they have instituted the High Demand major criteria.

FYI: UCB rarely grants deferrals however, I am sure due to Covid, many applicants delayed applying by taking a Gap year. The majority of UC’s were over enrolled last year which would contribute to a lower admit rate along with a projected enrollment freeze for UCB during last year’s admission cycle.

Were incoming freshmen delayed until 2023 (and was it a large enough number to affect freshman admissions this year)? The article only mentions “approximately 650 transfer students” who were being asked to delay coming until 2023.

I do not know if any Freshman for Fall 2022 were delayed in attending however, the FPF program was given as an option to some in-coming Freshman.

I think you’re fine - Ga Tech not a match but you have enough match and safety.

But you’ll have options for sure!!

Good luck.

I agree with @tsbna44 on all counts. I don’t know where you’ll end up, but I’m confident you’ll have some excellent options to choose from. Please update us on how your application season goes. Great list and best of luck!

Assuming you’ve applied to Utah before the Dec 1 deadline, you should get good merit. If you miss that deadline then there may not be much if any merit left.
