Match Me to a College :o)

Hi, everyone! I just finished looking at my list of schools that I'm interested in applying to, and I now see that they're ALL reach schools...Amherst, Bowdoin, Colby, Williams, and Bard. Based on my profile (click on my username, then under "Biography", click on my MyChances profile), which colleges in the New England/New York/New Jersey area would you recommend? Thanks for all of your input!

P.S. I plan on raising my ACT score...I've bought a book and I've been reviewing studiously. I really would prefer to NOT take the SATs again.

What major do you want to pursue?

Though your SATs are lower than its average, Bowdoin is an SAT-optional school. You've got some good options on MyChances (Skidmore, Emerson, etc.). How about Dickinson and Franklin & Marshall?

I was thinking either English or Journalism/Communications. I'd also probably like to minor in Spanish or History. Basically, I'm looking for a small college with a great writing community.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

For Journalism/Communications definitely try Newhouse at Syracuse. It's pretty hard to get into, but I'd give it a shot if I were you. Here's a link to their site: Welcome to the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications

Thanks! Very helpful.

You seem to be looking at Liberal Arts colleges, so I'll suggest Connecticut College as a match/safety and Middlebury as a low reach.

Reach: Haverford (known to produce lots of journalists), Wesleyan, Middlebury
Match: Bates, Hamilton, Trinity (CT), Conn College
Safety: Hobart & William Smith, Dickinson, Sarah Lawrence, Skidmore, Gettysburg

You might also consider the Midwest:

Reach: Carleton
Match: Macalester, Kenyon, Oberlin, Grinnell
Safety: Denison, Ohio Wesleyan, Lawrence
