So I've wanted to go to NYU for a very long time but NYU is know for giving the least amount of financial aid out of all the universities in the US so i need new options

I want to go somewhere that's in a large city with lots of things to do
I'm not looking for a "traditional" college experience/campus and i'm very independent
I would rather have dinner or go shopping or see a movie then go to a frat party
I want a large/medium sized university
Somewhere with good public transportation

As far as academics i have a 3.8 UW gpa and my SAT score is around ~2000/1900s

So far i've been looking at Boston U in particular but need more options

please help!!

BU might scare you off for the same reasons as NYU. Run the net price calculator. In fact, run the npc for any school you’re considering because nothing is going to matter if your parents say they cannot afford it.

Secondly, large-city schools are by their nature more expensive as real estate in cities is more expensive than in the country. So your requirements for less expensive and large city are pretty incompatible. But don’t trust me. go to SuperMatch, enter your criteria, and see if you find any schools in major cities that are reasonably priced.

Thirdly, no one’s SAT score is around anything. Tell us what the situation is with your SAT score; we need the CR+M, if you have it.

Finally, what state are you from? I ask because going in-state to a big-city school might be a good way to get what you want. OSU, Pitt, UMinn-Twin Cities, North Carolina State, UIllinois-Chicago, Temple, Cal State-LA, UCB, UCSD, etc. I think if you live in a state with a large city with a state university in it or adjacent to it, you might be in luck, but I have a feeling you’re not going to want to go in-state.

I definitely am not going in state. I live in Saint Louis, Missouri, the biggest city in MO and i hate it. i absolutely hate it.

The school doesn’t have to be too cheap. i can afford probably 30,000 a year after financial aid. the problem is i need a school that gives good merit aid because my mom makes over $100,000 a year.

As far as BU, i have used the net price calculator and they estimate that i will only have to pay about 19,000 in tuition per year which my family would be able to cover 100% no problem but i don’t like Boston that much.

I will definitely use supermatch though. thank you for the advice

so you’d only have to pay 19K to go to BU, whose COA is 62K? are you sure?

if you’re right, then almost any medium/large college in almost any city should be affordable to you.

in that case, all you have to do is look at the large cities of the united states, pick a bunch with good public transportation and a lot going on, pull out the medium/large universities, and run their net price calculators. get going.
