Match Merit Aid

So i got a merit aid of $12,500 a year from Furman university in SC.
Before today i had already decided i wasnt really interested in attending but this is by far the most money i have received.

If it comes down to me going to a LAC i would rather go to Rhodes college in Memphis. But i only got $7,000 a year from them.
They always send me mail asking me to come. Is it possible that i can ask for them to increase the merit aid they are offering because of what Furman is offering? They are both in the south and somewhat similar.

Any chance?

I dont qualify for financial aid btw

or should i go to Uni San Diego, or UCSanta Barbara???-no money

Can your family pay the $50,000 cost of attending U of San Diego out of pocket (or are you instate for CA and you meant SDSU?)?

You can write Rhodes a letter and ask them to reconsider…but it sounds like these are merit awards. Each school has its OWN criteria for awarding merit aid. It sounds like you were eligible for a higher amount at Furman than at Rhodes. You can ask, but don’t be surprised if they say no.

Looks like OP is from the DC area thumper. I would think that would make UCSB or U of SD somewhat cost prohibitive. Of course, Furman’s COA is roughly 50k/yr. Rhodes COA is closer to $45k/yr. So, Rhodes and Furman look to be about $37.5/yr COA with the merit money offered for the OP.

yeah i can affoard UCSB and USD but i dunno if i will get to distracted with the partying at UCSB. And i want to graduate in 4 years lol

I believe you can graduate in four years at U of San Diego…unless you don’t complete courses.

There is partying at EVERY college. YOU have to be in control of over doing it.

well yeah but not one weekdays like at UCSB…
