Match Schools?

So I was told to go for more match schools considering I was going for UC Berkeley and Georgia Tech… So I was thinking is Cal Poly a good match school. I am a female with a ACT score of 29 (31 E/ 30 M/ 26R/ 27S). My scores aren’t that high considering my friend with a 31 just got rejected from slo. I have a lot of leadership and community service roles with a 4.32 gpa weighted and 3.94 unweighted. I’m taking AP Calc as a junior, and would be applying engineering, preferably materials or biomed (I noticed there was no chemE). Does this college still seem like a reach for me, or is it more of a match?

Also if you have any other suggestions for good engineering schools that would sound like a match please suggest!

I have the exact same ACT score and GPA as you and I’ve been wondering the same thing. Since our ACT scores are pretty average competition for the schools you have listed, I’ve been thinking about applying to schools like Purdue, UCSD, and UIUC. Tell me if you get any insight!

I think some match schools for you (based on your ACT score) would be UC Riverside and UC Merced which are both still part of the UC system. Cal Poly is a good choice, but like you mentioned, a score of 29 is pretty low. Shoot for the “lower-tier” UCs as your matches. Maybe apply to some CSUs as well.

SLO is not a Match with an average ACT score of 32 for Engineering. Materials Engineering is a slightly easier admit than Biomed but consider all Engineering competitive. UCSC/ UCR would be Matches and maybe UCI, UCD or UCSB as High Match What is your UC GPA?

I think SLO might not be a good choice, my other firend got perfect SAT and 4.7 GPA got rejected. Im looking into Rensselaer they have a good program and average act is about 28. They offer lots of aid too. Best of luck to you!

Keep in mind that SLO superscores your ACT and just considers Math and English subscores. You have a couple more shots at the ACT and should be able to improve in these two areas. If you can get your superscore to a 31-33 your chances are much better. Good luck.
