Match

Can you get really low test scores but get into MIT because u have "The Match"

From one of your previous threads:
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/5180361-post6.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/5180361-post6.html</a></p>

If you are a great 'match' then ... well who knows by how much your chances will increase!

Every year, a small number of students are admitted with low stats -- last year, 27 admits had SAT I reading scores below 550, 7 had SAT I math scores between 550 and 590, and 4 had ACT scores between 21 and 25.

It's pretty safe to bet, though, that they didn't just get in because they were matches to MIT -- all of them, no doubt, had extremely strong applications except for one weak point. Being a match to MIT is important, but you do have to show that you're capable of handling the workload.

Out of curiosity..... what is "the match" ??

According to the admissions website, the following qualities:
1. Alignment with MIT's mission to make the world a better place.
2. Collaborative & cooperative spirit.
3. Initiative.
4. Risk-taking.
5. Hands-on creativity.
6. Intensity, curiosity, and excitement.
7. The character of the MIT community.
8. The ability to prioritize balance.
