Hello,
I had an average ACT of 28, but my English was 32, reading a 34, and writing a 34. However, I also founded a recycling and mentor program and had extensive outside school involvement. In addition, my personal history was a strong point. I have this looming fear though that I won’t be able to excel because my test scores were fairly average compared to other students who matched through Questbridge.
Did anyone else have a similar situation?
Does anyone have feedback about Carleton?
Thank you guys so much.
Hi-- starting off, I wasn’t matched to Carleton, but I do have some advice to offer you.
I’m a 2015 Match Scholar to Wesleyan, but my second (and last) ranked college was Carleton, and I also was accepted into their Taste of Carleton program-- I had the same worries you do about Carleton’s competitive (and relaxing environment) because I only made a 31 composite on the ACT (I superscore a 32 with a 35 in English, a 34 in Reading, a 36 in Writing, but a 26 in Math and a 30 in Science), but the staff and teachers are incredibly friendly and helpful, and after sitting in on a few classes, I was incredibly impressed with the depth of discussion and involvement from each session. Also, they have a huge network for tutoring and study groups, and the Libe has a writing center where you can sign up for sessions with TAs or others to help you with any subject or paper that you’re struggling with. It’s an incredibly welcoming and supportive environment, and the teachers and staff will go to the ends of the earth to help you out-- so don’t worry! Minnesota is beautiful and Minneapolis is an awesome city, and the dorms are pretty fantastic too. I wish you the best of luck, and feel free to message me if you any questions about Carleton’s classes or its campus!
S at Carleton but not through Questbridge. We are from Texas, so it was all new and different. He attended a big public high school, so good but uneven prep.
He loves it. Lots of natural beauty, a great sense of community, quiet and safe campus. Because most people are not from the area, lots of effort goes into helping you meet your fellow students. Son isn’t super outgoing, but reports it is easy to make friends because the environment is so low key and welcoming.
To do well you do have to work hard, but hey, that’s college! Son reports there are lots of resources to get help. He has visited math tutoring center and says many kids go there and the help, from other students and from the official tutor, are great.
