Matches and safeties.....please help!

I realize my list has a few too many reaches. I hope I did better on the SAT the second time around (will know on Wednesday) but for now, here's the basic info:

Criteria - preferably a LAC, not in CA, strong in poli-sci, outdoorsy students would be a plus, the lower the price the better, liberal.

Basic Stats:
GPA: 4.2
SAT I: 1990 (hope it's going up.....)
SAT IIs: 550 (ugh), 630
Two or three varsity sports for four years of HS
120+ community service hours
Class prez soph. year
Student body secretary junior year
Class VP for next year, senior
Student body Prez for next year
Published poems
Several best-in-class awards
Other random leadership roles
Youth and Government

I desperately need some matches and safeties!!!!!!! Thanks in advance!

What's your unweighed GPA?

Unsure.....somewhere around a 3.7 or 3.8. They only show the weighted on our report cards.

bates, colby

Oberlin sounds like a possible match as well as maybe Grinell.

I've been wanting to learn more about Oberlin....oh, and another plus for the search would be colleges without core curriculums. I know of Vassar, Amherst, Hamilton, and Brown (definitely not matches), but are there any others? Thanks for the advice so far.

What are your reaches? It helps to see what schools you like.

Ohio Wesleyan, Knox, Kalamazoo, Beloit, Bowdoin, Gettysburg, Colorado College.

Evergreen State College?

Amherst and Vassar are my main choices for reaches and Boston College as well, even though it's a bit different. I'm still deciding.......I was also looking at Georgetown. I'm open to all suggestions, really, but I'm leaning towards the small LACs.

Rice could be a good reach...

if you like vassar, you might take a look at connecticut college- slightly easier to get into

Colorado College

Bowdoin.....does my stats suggest I might actually be a match? How about BC? I'm liking all these suggestions. After reading Andi's son's story, I'm scrambling for matches and safeties.

Unless your SAT scores take a dramatic leap, the SAT optional schools should really be your focus. Reasonable reach good LACs would also include the women's colleges like Holyoak and Sweet Briar.

Not too many of those schools around....I guess I'll see how the scores are tomorrow. I'm not really expecting a dramatic increase, but I'm hoping for at least a slight one.

Oberlin doesn't have a core curriculum.

It's sounding better all the while.....thanks!

Bowdoin is, I believe, SAT optional. It is most likely a reach school for you, depending on where you stand in your class, but I think you should apply because it has the qualities you are looking for.

Other SAT optional schools to consider would be Bates, Connecticut College, Lewis and Clark, Knox and possibly Drew and Muhlenberg (don't know much about political science at the last two). Additional schools to look at would be Beloit, Lawrence, Grinnell, Earlham, Colorado College and Oberlin.

Holy Cross is SAT optional and had a large increase in apps, offers merit aid and nice location-1 hour from Boston. Bowdoin is in a nice small town-Brunswick but a little remote.
