Matches for Average to Above Average Junior

I really don't know where else to ask this, since I really don't think I fit in here since everyone seems to focus on getting like a 2400 on the SATs when I'll be happy with maybe an 1800... but anyway. I'm currently a junior in high school and have absolutely NO clue as to what a match for me would be, reaches, and safeties. My GPA is pretty good - 3.88 weighted, but my SAT score from March was basically average. I'm definitely going to take it again though and hopefully improve.

So, say I get around an 1800 on the SATs when I retake them, and maintain my GPA... in general, what schools would be reaches, matches, and safeties? I don't have outstanding extracurriculars but I am/was involved with a few clubs and have had a summer job, done volunteer work, etc. I am interested in journalism/writing/English, and would most likely be majoring in those areas. I also want to remain on the East Coast, not too far from home (NJ).

Basically, where can I go, and is it possible to even get in there?

Syracuse University

Will you be applying for finaid? If so any idea of your efc

These are what I consider match schools for you. I gleaned these from College Board’s website using a 600 on each section as the search tool, and looked at schools in New England, NY, NJ, PA, DE, VA, MD, and DC.

NJ has The College of New Jersey, and Rutgers, as well as Seton Hall and Centenary College.

In NY, there are the SUNY and CUNY colleges (Queens, Brooklyn, Lehman, Hunter, City, and Baruch are particularly good for the latter). For private schools, there are Utica College, Union College, Siena College, Skidmore (might be a matchy-reach depending on your other quals), Sarah Lawrence (same), Ithaca College, Hofstra University, Fordham University, Eugene Lang (at the New School), and College of New Rochelle.

CT’s also close – there’s always U-Conn, but also Quinnipiac and Connecticut College.

MA is a great college state – there’s Boston University, Wheaton College, Bard College at Simon’s Rock, U-Mass Amherst, Northeastern, Stonehill College, Lesley University, Emerson College (matchy-reach?) Clark University, and College of the Holy Cross (matchy-reach?)

In PA, there’s of course Penn State and the University of Pittsburgh, but there’s also Muhlenberg, Duquesne, Dickinson, Drexel, Ursinus, and Temple.

In DC, there’s American University. In MD, there’s University of Maryland.

Take a look at some top SAT optional colleges: Bowdoin, Middlebury, Holy Cross. Bates
