so I read in the National Merit rulebook that you must "match" your SAT score to your PSAT score with a SAT administration before you apply for finalist status. I got really lucky on my PSAT this year and got a 240. What would constitute as a "matching" score?? Would anything above 2250 be okay?

Get a 2300 on the SAT, and they will consider it practically matching. A 2250 is borderline(but still qualifying for all intents and purposes), but a 2300+ is solid enough in my opinion.

Would a 2140 be enough to match a 213?
Or do I need to retake?

2140 versus 2130. Close enough.

I’m worried about mine though. 215 vs 2280 is a pretty large gap.

If your SAT score is way above your PSAT score, there is no problem at all; Congrats if this is the case. “Matching” should only apply for finalists who may be above the PSAT cutoff; the SAT scores of each finalist should be near/above his/her PSAT score.
