Any Materials Engineering students here? I am an Industrial Engineering major and we are supposed to take a Mat E class next year. I really like Chemistry and I was thinking about possibly changing majors to Mat E depending on how my next semester goes.

One thing I like about IE is that the job market at least right now is very good. How is the job market for Mat E? What are the major differences between Mat E and Chem E? Can you do some of the same things Chemical Engineers do or is is a totally different field?

There’s some overlap with ChemE, though there are certain jobs they can get which you can’t (and vice versa). I’d recommend looking at this book: [url=http://www.amazon.com/Materials-Science-Engineering-An-Introduction/dp/0470419970/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363104105&sr=8-1&keywords=callister+materials+science+and+engineering+8th]Materials Science and Engineering: An Introduction: William D. I had a class dedicated to pretty much every chapter in that book.
