Hi all,
I was just wondering if Duke would still accept materials mailed in to them after the due date (1/2/11). I just finished the application but realized that my counselor needs to mail in my transcript and letters of recommendation. We're on break right now so I don't know if she will be able to get them into the mail by then or not :/ So, before I pay the application fee and submit it, will they accept them if they're not in or if they're not postmarked by the due date?
Thanks!

I’m wondering a similar thing.

I would call the admissions office to ask. If they say no, then you’ll know for sure. If they say OK, then you’ll at least be able to give them a heads up to expect the stuff.

I’m 95% sure they’ll accept materials after the due date. People mail in additional letters of recommendations, art supplements, etc. all the time after everything else was due. If your application is not quite complete, they won’t look at it yet probably, but they’ll have plenty of other applications to sort through and make a decision on. Putting yours off a couple weeks isn’t going to have any effect as they can’t get through all 27,000 in that time anyways. From Duke’s perspective, they’d rather have an additional applicant to add to their total then not as long as you made your intent to apply clear before the deadline (which you have by submitted the other parts of the application). (Although they often count incomplete applications in their numbers anyways). I wouldn’t sweat it and would send it, but it probably would be smart to also give them a call and let them know the situation.
