What are the educational qualifications for admission into the MS&E program?

There are no specific requirements for admission to the MS&E program but applicants would benefit greatly from having a B.S. degree in the physical sciences (chemistry, physics) or engineering disciplines. Generally, these majors have similar requirements for math (calculus and differential equations), chemistry and physics (for scientists and engineers) that are the underpinnings of MS&E. Biology and non-science majors generally have not completed these courses.

You can also look at graduate admissions pages for other schools’ materials engineering departments for their preferred qualifications. You can also look at the core graduate materials engineering courses for each program and then check what undergraduate courses are listed as prerequisites for them.

From the above, you can figure out what courses you need to include in your undergraduate course selection to prepare for graduate study in materials engineering (these courses may be part of your major or taken as electives outside your major).
